I don't understand how being Jewish doesn't make them "victims" a lot of fund management is not public. How does their ethnicity have anything to do with the theft?

It should be known that the investors were getting statements so they weren't imagining their assets increasing.

They touched on that in the book. What Madoff was doing(other than the whole Ponzi Scheme), was an Affinity Scam. Madoff was Jewish, and preyed on the Jewish community. Although not exclusively ripping off Jews, they thought, "hey, our Jewish friend here wouldn't screw another member of the group". It doesn't make them any less victims though.

Being Jewish alone doesn't make them "victims". It doesn't make them non-victims either. That is not the point. Just as the mere fact of being black, white, gentile, atheist alone doesn't make people "victims" and it doesn't make them non-victims. An act or action is required to complete the picture.

Participating in a fund announced as pointedly exclusive of non-Jews is analogous to participating in a whites-only club. It speaks to the mindset of its members.
You don't understand how that is unseemly, at best?

Let's lay it out differently.
Do you know how many blacks were allowed to participate in the fund?

Granted, schadenfreude may alter perception as to importance of racial/ethnic/religious exclusions as they existed. But the contemporary biased mindset of individuals investing with the "Jewish bond" (Madoff) is what I'm addressing.

What goes around comes around.
In this case, it came around hard.

I'm glad Madoff is in jail. I feel badly for the victims who were actually invested through brokers, and had limited knowledge of prejudiced mindsets involved. But the vast majority of folks who tearfully appeared on news reports knew exactly who the fund excluded.

An earlier poster put it perfectly, albeit perhaps with different intent
quote:

...........if everyone simply lived and practiced the golden rule (or love thy neighbor as thee love thyself), the world would be a better place with greater quality of life. I'm not saying that we should try and artificially put a value....because it's pointless.....more or less just pointing out that if people strived to be better humans, then mankind would be better as a whole.

It is what it is.
