quote:Here is my point. Saban gets paid 6.5 million. That means 6.5 million is actually Market value for the elite of the elite college coach. 8 million is way over market value in college. So your "market value" line actually goes against your argument
just like Saban doesnt get 6.5 from the University

but I don't think money is the primary motivator for Jim.
Well I have no clue, but I would agree with you if I had to guess.

Market value is whatever the market is willing to pay. Salaries for other people dont set it. If you are going up against NFL teams that are willing to pay 8 mil, thats the market value.

We will see. Like I said, he hasnt said no.
The threat of going back to college and leaving the Niners high and dry will make it easier for him to force his way to whatever team he wants with little to no compensation for SF.
Also, Jim was not going to do anything to officially "address" his situation while the team was still in the playoff hunt.

He doesnt need to threaten to go to Michigan to do that. He has to agree to any trade.

Yeah but the Niners could just hold him for another year rather than trade him. The threat of going to Michigan takes that off the table.

According to every media report since the beginning of the year that isnt happening.

Are you now arguing him keeping UM on the table doesnt help his bargaining power? Look man, he may end up at Michigan, but you are somewhat being delusional how you dismiss anything and everything that points to him not going

Well that's not true, albeit it's kind of an empty threat.
As a niner fan I've been following this situation for a year and half

I havent dismissed anything that points to him not coming. Im just saying he doesnt need Michigan for leverage. He can turn down any trade, and he wont be there next year no matter what happens.

Nah. The 49ers are the ones in control. He is under contract with them. If he vetoes a trade, the 49ers can just threaten to wait to fire him until the Michigan job is filled. Michigan can't wait forever.
Then he'll still get paid, and the 49ers will be the ones without a coach late into the whole process.

Wonderful. If Harbaugh doesnt come to Michigan it wont be for monetary reasons.
True...but UM would not pay him that much regardless.
You know it too

here's a question

So you agree with me that it wont be for money issues (AKA Michigan will pay him what he wants), and then you say they wont.
Can you make up your mind please?

I haven't read any responses to your post about money being an issue for Michigan, but I went to the Michigan vs ND game in the Big House, and nary an advertisement can be found.
Not one.
They really care about incoming and outgoing, and are very capable of affording, just not willing.

Thats funny. Lots of the complaints over the Brandon era was the amount of advertisements everywhere.

There's not one.
None.
And they are proud of it as they should be. Academics is all they have left to hang their hat on, and I'll be damned if they're going to go out and disrupt the entire conference's reputation by succumbing to the temptation of overpaying a coach.
