I'm hunting in North Grant Parish right at the Winn Parish line and it looks like the rut is wayyyy late. In my area it looks like its just started. Anyone else seeing this?

you are late in Winn and Grant according to this map.

if the rut coincides with a full moon you will sometimes see less chasing and "miss the rut" per se

Could be it. Seems like this year has been off or something. Started with squirrels and continued right on into deer season

Does can come into estrus up to 3 times if they are not bred on the 1st or 2nd time. When they get "on the rag", the bucks will get in a frenzy and you can have a secondary rut. Usually the 3rd time in January or early February is too late.

Rut was about a week and a half ago in northern Winn.
That said, I have had a 6 point on one of my food plots where every pic I have of him for the last month is him running behind a doe. I don't see how he is still walking.

Got it. Guess I just missed the primary rut. Just havent seen evidence on camera or in woods that it had happened. Of course I have seen 1 deer during daylight hours all season and he didnt make it.

secondary is usually about 18 days after primary.
but, keep in mind,,, deer, like all creatures, are similar to humans in that there are "individual and unique" characteristics.

The "rut" is determined by an average of when a sample population of does is bred. It is far from an exact science. They went out years ago and killed a bunch of pregnant does in the spring and measured the fetuses to see how many days old they were. There is a chart in a book I have at home that you can measure an unborn fetus and back date it to the day the doe got laid. Biologists then take the average date and call it the rut. It varies so much in different parts of the state because deer were brought in from all over the country during the 1950's and 60's for restocking purposes.
Also, bucks born to does that were bred on their 2nd or 3rd cycle are behind from the get go on antler development. There is still debate as to whether or not they will ever catch up to the earlier born bucks.
