wasted on sports when the roads, bridges, and schools are falling apart.
Our schools arent falling apart. If our stuff is falling apart, its from the outsiders coming into our town and ruining it.
And if you think a sports complex is all about sports and nothing else, you're mistaken there too.

Sports programs for the youth of a community is in fact an essential role of government.

Who receives all the revenue from the Grand Slam/USSSA tournaments, concessions, player fees, etc?
The tournament director/ Host receives the revenue
For regular qualifier tournaments, team entry fees are usually enough to cover field rentals, umpire fees, trophies, paint/chalk to line fields, etc.
Gate and concessions are where any revenue is made.
The tournaments I have been involved with, we raked, watered, cut, and lined the fields. We brought in our own concessions. We emptied every garbage can and brought our own can liners. We cleaned up after ourselves and left no mess. Put soap and toilet paper in the restrooms. So no taxpayer funding was used for us to hold an event.

It's not the communities problem for your dumbass kid to play tee ball. Fund it yourselves by selling tickets, concessions, or selling some damn chocolate bars in front of a walmart.

Walked into Vote on Saturday and notice that their are 5 amendments on the ballot. Not one word in the last month has been spoken about these 5 amendments. I had no fricking clue what I was voting on until I took the time to read all five before I went in the booth.
This. Been tied up with work and had no idea anything other than the two congressional races and one local judgeship was even on the ballot this time. Wife and I were planning to vote on opposite sides of the congressional races, so we agreed to both skip and stay home. We had no idea this additional ballot issue was even being considered--although, in fairness, we probably would have cancelled each others vote there as well.

GS doesnt collect gate fees....the cost is passed on to each team in the entry fee

you're missing the whole point....parks and recreations is an essential part of any local government. I'm sorry you're too much of a dumb arse to understand that.
It's probably a good thing you don't have kids. Do us a favor and never reproduce.

Cypress no longer hosts USSSA, unless its strictly for softball.
As for who says it can't...Certain organizations. They basically give a park an ultimatum. Either host our tourneys exclusively, or you don't get any of theirs.

It wasn't the State tourney in Hammond this Fall. Maybe the one day Tourneys.
I know Chappella (sp) host both USSSA and GS tourneys.

fricking ignorant arse selfish voters turned down a tax renewal that funds Live Oak sports district and right now they are limiting park access. Gates will close at 5:30 every day. No child sports for the 2015 year.
Built a brand new state of the art sports complex and now don't have enough money to keep it open
Why in the hell should sports be funded by the taxpayers? I already pay for public schools and they have PE classes and facilities. The people in this state with their hypocrisy of "no taxes, small government" but then want people to pay for little Billy to play teeball and little Suzy to play slow pitch softball is ridiculous. If you want your kids to do it, get other parents involved and pay for it yourselves. Don't make us households without children subsidize your wants.

I'm sure the "greater good" answer is coming...
Actually, I personally agree with you. But, I believe if we are going to invest public money in building the complex, it's stupid to shut off public funding to keep it open. My comment was more about the people who instinctively vote "No" on any kind of tax or millage issue and then can't comprehend why government services get curtailed. These people--many in my extended family--consider it a badge of honor and overall verification of their "conservative" bona fides to vote against any tax. Then, they'll start complaining that the ballpark isn't open long enough, the mosquitoes are out of control, or the fire district's rating went down--all things that the tax would have prevented.

Gotcha. We played a one day back in Oct and I don't remember any gate fees. We played in the state tourney a few weeks ago and I'm positive there weren't any.
