quote:Not true at all and this always seems to be the go to line for posters who have shitty arguments with nothing to back up their stance. Saying that Drew is all of the sudden lacking in leadership after all the success he's had without anything to back up that statement is just dumb and you should be called out on it. No amount of "leadership" from Brees is going to make the defense improve or the oline block better. If you want to criticize him for his poor decision making that is completely fair, but blaming him for everything that has gone wrong this season is ridiculous.
Criticism of Drew of any kind is not allowed on this forum.

It's not an argument. It is just a fact. Drew worked his arse of to become a HOF QB and Super Bowl winner. His reward for that was a big contract and financial security for many generations.
Now, as has happened many times after the huge payday, his performance has declined. Maybe it's age, maybe it's better defense, maybe it's Drew just easing back a bit, but the truth is it is happening now. Maybe he just isn't as hungry as he was before.
That, and the Front Office making bad/unlucky decisions, has let the Saints window on another Super Bowl quickly close.

I've yet to hear anyone say what we should've done instead of pay him.
should have paid him, and trade Jimmy for draft picks and should have gone with playmaking receiver like Watkins or Benjamin, or Even Beckham

Look to the guards getting $21 million (both top 5 in pay) while completely shitting the bed. Look to us sticking with Charles Brown for too long last year.
Look to Byrd being the highest paid S in the NFL. Look to Vaccaro completely falling off.
Look to our 2nd draft pick not seeing the field while completely missing on our #2 FA corner in Champ Bailey.
Not to mention what happened with 2012
Upvote, you get.
Thanks,

Except that his play really hasn't declined. He's a better QB now than he was in 2006, 2007, 2008, and 2010.
He's PFF's 2nd ranked QB right now, has the highest accuracy % in the NFL, and is on pace for his 4th beset passer rating as a Saint, with the 3rd best coming last year.

If Drew would have taken less money the Saints could afford better players and had better depth. Drew is a HOF QB but he can't do it by himself. and 24-23 says I'm right.
If Drew would have taken less money, he would have had less money.
Statistically, Drew is a top 3 QB in the NFL THIS season. His money is completely in line with that and is actually falling off each year.
If the Saints had more money, they would have wasted it on even more players who aren't doing anything.
We have Drew playing the best he can (which is incredible) and then key players all over the field NOT doing their part. But, sure, if Drew had just left money on the table, that would have solved it, right? How about if the players who ARE getting paid played better?
Our WR corps is abysmal. Our OLine is a joke, And, our Defense is one of the worst in the league. Still, we have the #2 offense in the NFL and Drew is putting up top 3 numbers AGAIN. And, you want to blame Drew.
Unreal.

If you are blaming Drew for what has happened all over the field over the past few years, then your point is irrelevant. The window closed in 2011 in San Francisco with the best Saints team we have ever seen. The Bounty year disabled the team and we haven't gotten back where we were. Defense have figured Payton out. The defense stinks. The OLine has completely fallen off and our WRs are not any good as a unit. Drew cannot work with nothing.
Does he make mistakes? Yes. But, he is trying to place the ball perfectly because guys aren't getting open. He rushes things because he is trying to make something happen. Overall, however, his performance has not fallen off. He is having a very good year statistically while the rest of the team is terrible.
Take Drew off of this team and we are maybe 1-12 or 2-11 right now. That is how bad this team is. It is horrible.

Moneywise the deal we made with Drew is not terrible. Its pretty much in line with what any team who thinks they have a SB capable QB. Not every team thinks they do, so they dont pay him like that. Maybe thats a better strategy, but we couldnt keep Drew in that strategy.
If youve noticed, some of his peers and arguably inferior Qbs have beaten him in contract numbers. Noticeably Romo, Flacco, Rodgers, I think Roethlisberger.
Its called the "Lake Woebegone Effect" and if you can understand it, you'll understand that we're not crazy for giving Drew all that money.
The effect is this. You give a dude the best money, because you think he can get the best results. You dont give a dude less than the best cuz thats not what hes there for.
Over the years the price for these guys gets higher and higher until the stigma of QB=Results goes away.
And thats a whole nother discussion which I think a lot of people are tryna make legitimate points about.

Yes. The Saints are a bad football team this season.
Drew Brees is the whole team. There's not another playmaker on the roster right now.
This franchise is in trouble.
