Look for some 800 thread count, Egyptian cotton, sateen weave.
My wife wanted sheets last year. Bought some of those and she liked them so much she bought a second set and got rid of all our old sheets.
I like them too. Very comfy.

Do you people not get Christmas Lists from your wife?

I give her mine too. Screw guessing, we just tell each a few things we want/need.

Also, does high thread count mean it gets hotter i.e. its thicker? Never really understood what it actually means.

My wifey tells me 5 or 6 things she wants/needs and I get about 3 of them usually. Almost always things I can enjoy as well

I do the same for her.

It leaves some sense of surprise, but also reassures the buyer that their spouse will like/use the gift.

We don't do jewelry.

I tend to agree.

Good sheets cost, what, 40-50 bucks? Be prepared to get something else

No.

I pay the hell attention to shite she says she wants/needs in passing, starting in September. Bigger ticket stuff, I file away mentally, and when Christmas day comes, she's "surprised" that I got her stuff that she might not have even remembered saying she needed.

I gotcha.. I wish it was that easy.
Though she has gotten into baking.. So. I figure that's a safe route...Get cool things for that..

Though I'll probably need a treadmill now..

It's been a decade since you've gotten new sheets. Time to go shopping my friend.

Since no one has posted the correct answer yet I'll help you out. Get linen sheets. I think Pottery barn and restoration hardware have them. Buying sheets is subjective but linen is much better than cotton IMO.
