About to head out for work. Our hydrant is broken again for like the 10th time since 2006. Third time this year. Sidewalks and driveways torn up and all kinds of crap replaced then torn out again. Same sad-arse crew it seems every time comes to work on it.

One guy in a hole digging. Another guy leaning on the truck watching another guy in the truck. Guy in the hole complains to guy leaning on the truck and he starts going on a rant. I miss most of it because I am hearing it through a window. I do catch "50 a year, I don't need to work.... 50 a year, you make then then tell me what to do."

I'll bet the leak is back before summer.

Here is an idea: let's raise taxes to create more jobs.

So is the guy saying he makes 50k a year (presumably more than the guy in the hole) so he doesn't have to do the work?

That seems the be the attitude in the construction industry by the laborers. The guy that makes more shouldn't have to do the shitty things. The more you make, the easier your job.

I understand there are some situations where the guy is actually supervising or running a crew, but he's literally standing there watching him dig a hole. It could get done twice as fast if he helped. His 50k comment makes me believe he's on salary, so he probably doesn't get paid overtime and the guy in the hole does. He should want to get it done quick so he doesn't have to stay later for no extra pay. Instead he is costing the company money and himself time. They're not going to have to pay the guy in the hole overtime and the 50k guy is going to be wasting his time supervising for no extra pay.

On a lighter note, I hope their conversation went something like this:
