Easier route to the playoff might be enticing. Lower expectations for the near future as well. Maybe they'd be willing to paying him more than LSU at this point as well. It would be hard to imagine him getting another raise after this season.

How is it easier?
They would have Ohio State in their division, and they won't be beating them for awhile until they fix a lot of their problems.
