That question is not even relevant anymore. We all know there is limited 4K content out there. It's a lost battle. The view distance charts all assume that content viewed is actually the native resolution of the TV. If you're watching lower-res content on a 4K TV, a lot of them can upsample the content fairly well. Doesn't turn it into 4K by any stretch of the imagination, but it's still something. Of course, again that means nothing if you're sitting too far away or too close. Otherwise, any perceived improvement in picture is probably due to the fact that resolution is not the only thing that's better than your previous TV. LED tech, refresh rate, color accuracy, contrast, saturation, etc.
Personally, I'm not quite ready to slap an 80-inch 4K TV on my wall for my wife to watch 720P U-Verse.

This Visio at Best Buy is probably the best deal on a 50" TV right now. Reviews are pretty stellar.
