I have a hard time believing that a cop- with a partner- needed to resort to shooting the suspect within 10 seconds of pulling up in that situation.

Let me clue yall in on a little secret. Cops dont want to get shot. They are also scared to death to shoot someone. Look at Ferguson. it can ruin your life. When an officer resp[onds to a call such as this he isnt listening to the FM radio thinking about what he is gonna do this weekend. He is planning the approach and running scenarios through his head hoping this wont be bad.

So much condescending snark and absolutely zero substance. Standard operating procedure, I guess.

So they just pulled off the street and right up next to a gazebo and got out for no reason and OH shite THERE'S A GUY, HE'S GOT A GUN, KILL HIM!!!

Jesus, dude. Open your eyes. No one is perfect. I have no reason to believe these cops acted with malice or wanted to go out and shoot a dumb 12 year old. But these cops shouldn't be cops. Plain and simple.

look at Dan celebrating his brethren shooting a 12 year old. what if the cops rolled up like that on a completely innocent civilian and just dropped them? I bet dan would support them.

What in the hell are you talking about? The likely reason they pulled up so closely is that they were trying to clear the park quickly and avoid an active shooter scenario. They likely did not know that was the suspect and were going to get him out of the area when he reached into his waistband to draw a pistol

you are basing that literally off of nothing. The 911 call they received flies in the face of this crackpot, uninformed 'theory.'

Nobody here is stupid enough to believe that. The amount of times you and other posters on the OB have called blacks "coons" and like-names is somewhere in the hundreds. (no bannings of course)

I would hope you are smarter than a 12 year old. Congratulations. Have a cookie.

They believed this was a legitimate threat. Their procedure is in question, but using lethal force when someone has a gun is justified. I won't play the "what if's", this situation sucks on both sides.

If a person pulls a gun on a cop or attacks a cop they should expect to be shot?

I would?

The problem you and many others have is that you see these situations only through the prism of a camera. Real life does not work like the movies and everybody's a hole puckers up when they see a weapon coming at them. Read me post prior to this one if you would like to know any of a myriad of reasons they pulled up so closely.

They should be punished if they violated procedure, especially if they did so egregiously. I don't think anyone here believes this was some malicious shooting.

Did the 911 call pinpoint the kids location? I must have missed that

This is 1000 times worse than Ferguson. In fact, of all the awful police work I've seen lately, Ferguson was arguably the ONE example where the cop was justified.

I am still baffled why the black rights movement selected that to be their Waterloo.

Yea in Ferguson the cop was completely justified in how he handled the situation. its a bad case to bring up when trying to point to the problems with police in America.

It appears they acted quickly, but I can't say I wouldn't do the same not knowing if the gun was fake or not.

Keep in mind the kid was waving the gun around at people, which is why the cops were called in the first place.

If cops pulled up to me after I was doing something really stupid, my immediate reaction would be to put my hands straight in the air.

The kid didn't deserve to die but good god, why the frick was he doing something so stupid?
