There were a ton of more people around his car before the video started, so I am sure that played into the driver's panicked mindset.

The video (in the OP) picks up once he gets through the initial mob with people still on his hood. He also didn't gun it when he hit the lady. He was going the same speed the he was basically going through the mob at. The dumbass woman just got caught under.
Yeah. It was a perfectly fine time to gtfo of there.

The link you provided seems worse. They didn't seem to slow down at all; granted, they weren't flying, but where's the harm in just stopping & waiting. When the person got into the right lane, they clearly didn't stop until the woman had been hit.
