We Have a Moral Divide, Not a Racial One

Excellent article by Dennis Prager, published yesterday before the grand jury's announcement, on the real divide in America.
LINK
quote:
As we await protests and riots scheduled for Ferguson, Missouri, and elsewhere if a grand jury in Missouri does not indict the white officer who shot and killed Michael Brown, a black teenager, a little moral clarity is called for.
For decades now, we have been told that there is a black-white divide in America. The problem with this belief that is that it renders moral judgment — of white police, of black crime and black incarceration rates, of white judges and jurors, and of black riots and protests – impossible.
It is, we are told over and over, all about “perceptions” — a “black-white divide” in the way each race perceives racial matters. This is how it works:
Many blacks see racism almost everywhere — especially in arrest, conviction and incarceration rates, and in white police interactions with blacks. On the other hand, whites (specifically, whites who are not on the left) think that white racism has largely been conquered, and therefore blacks’ disproportionately high arrest and conviction rates are the result of black behavior, particularly the high out-of-wedlock birth rate that has deprived the great majority of black children of fathers, not white racism.
According to the “black-white divide” way of thinking, these are simply two conflicting perceptions.
It is difficult to overstate how damaging this is.
It denies the very existence of the two pillars of civilization — objective truth and moral truth.

White people don't get arrested when they commit crimes? Shocking!

I was being sarcastic. If you commit a crime, then you are at chance to be arrested if you are caught, doesn't matter color.

I'm white and I have hate for a lot of white judges and politicians So black people don't need to feel on their own. Some of these people are huge dicks and pieces of shite. There is a judge in Ocala who's son was a drunk driver and killed someone. He got off, imagine that. Yet he is very strict on those who roll through his court. White privelege? Not hardly, just power hungry dickheads.

It would then follow that if after committing said crime you attempted to relieve a police officer of his weapon, you may get shot, regardless of color.

anyone who doesn't think there is a racial divide is either delusional or is incredibly insulated from the real world

The racial divide exists only in major cities that are largely segregated.
Here in the MS delta we interact daily, sure there are cultural differences and the blacks here have some issues of their own, but we get along fine and you won't see shite here like in ferguson

Have a grandfather that is the Chief Bishop from Cleveland, TN. Have churches in TN,AR,PA,LA,AL,MT,SC, and many more, plush lots of mission work in Mexico, Haiti, Africa...
About the same, 20-40 percent black, and even my friends from high school, who are black, don't post this stuff on fb. This is all liberal bs that only oppresses black people, smart people see through it.

so? because they don't act violently they don't have racial prejudices, they don't identify primarily by skin color...and maybe they don't.
there is a significant portion of people (and not just black) who identify, prioritize, and distinguish themselves by either skin color, gender, sexual orientation. Their beliefs, values, and sometimes actions are reflective of this.
What's the crux of this particular situation? "we're black, they're not"
I've seen it first hand at work, at school, living in New Orleans, etc.
coworkers discussing how even though they think O.J. killed someone, they're glad he got off. why? "we deserved that" and she had no problem saying this directly in front of me.
Black group outside of Riley's house calling me cracka, turkey, jew (had on a Tulane shirt, I look jewish)
The lines are drawn by people according to what are really, inconsequential things.
and in this instance, you see the biggest divide in America (and while it is a 2 way street, it is disproportionately so)
and despite all the evidence to the contrary, this is a racial issue, because they're black first and foremost...whether they rioted or not, that's how this has unfolded. That's how it always unfolds
disgraceful

Feel free to rebut, don't just say nothing.

really? because I grew up in a small town in Mississippi, and the attitudes there are in line with what you're hearing from the hustlers and citizens of ferguson, they're just not acting on it

It's more than just a moral divide.
It's also an ignorance divide, young people are to busy with their own “personal BS” to invest time in a search for deep truths.
We also have people in our country who are sellouts, they go along to get along.
But I agree with Prager for the most part, nice article.

I think the racial identity factor is so strong in this case that no reasoning, evidence, education, etc. would sway the outraged.
with all of the proven liars that testified against Wilson, who had any reasonable motivation? Why lie about it? They would watch an innocent man fry or be sent to an unbelievable hell because he is the wrong skin color.
black cop shoots Michael brown...no riots, no protests, no story, nothing. probably a few 5 minute pieces on the local news.

Oh, so Sunflower County is not segregated? You have posted on this very forum that whites in Indianola don't list their homes for sale publicly for fear a black family might move to the neighborhood. Homes are sold by word of mouth.
You really are unbelievable sometimes.

You are much more likely to be arrested/prosecuted if you are black for the exact same crime than if you are white.

Agree, had to even delete my younger cousin from fb last night. She posted a picture of Mike Brown and said it's not right that Wilson wasn't indicted. I proceeded to ask her why she feels that even with the evidence presented, and help me understand why she feels that way. She said "It doesn't matter because that's my opinion and I'll say what I want."
