How long do you plan on keeping it? They're gonna make less and less new games for the 360 over the next few years. I'm guessing he's gonna want all the new ones, which will mostly be on XBone. If he follows gaming like I did when I was 10, he will know he's behind the times with his 360.

Honestly, I wouldn't risk it. If he has a friend that gets a One, he will wonder why his is different then want the Xbox One.
My advice, get him the Xbox One.

Absolutely, plus these systems will last for many years. So think of this as a long term investment. Some new games still come out on both systems, but this will end soon.
Eventually he will no longer be able to keep up with his friends and get upset. Then you will cave and have to spend the extra money on the second system.
Also, the new Xbox is not backwards compatible with Xbox 360 games (other than gamer tag info) so that means the old system will soon be useless as far as your kid is concerned.
Don't be cheap, buy an Xbox One.

If he watches tv or has friends who play games yes.
Back in the 90's as a kid i knew the difference from Nintendo and Super Nintendo
