Where do you have a shop? I need a transmission rebuilt or replaced in the br area. Sorry to derail the thread.

We'll come back to this post in ten years and see.

Yep. Almost 8 years old now. Had it since new.
Amazing isn't it?

they are great cars. even if you abuse them they hold up. The issue is some mechanics don't want to work on them. Like a Volvo or BMW everything is a little over engineered. A suburau seems more German than Japanese in it's construction.
I know you can buy subaru's here and then drive them to colorado then sell it for a premium then get a 2wd Truck there and come back with it and flip it.
It's how my buddy affords his three times a year trips to CO.

I'm going to get a Subaru and drive it until it dies.
At least that's my plan. They actually have SUV-ish ground clearance and the AWD is wonderful. Good gas mileage, lots of space, good safety ratings, etc.
I'm pumped, but will be sad to see my 4Runner go. Gas mileage isn't great especially for a 2WD car. Plus, the inside still smells like college 5 years after graduation

Completely agree with OP. Toyota is just a superior brand. They'll have hit & miss years with new models, but at least their older models will still look up-to-date.
I'm looking into buying a new-ish 4Runner or say f* it, and get a Tundra.

Actually their long model life cycles make them appear dated and thus less appealing.
as the top auto manufacturer in the US and probably the world(i'd have to check that) ,don't you think they would have changed the way they do things if it wasn't working?
Being a market leader doesn't mean it's a good design. GM and Toyota are both massive and a lot of their designs are bland as hell. The Corolla and Cruze are particularly blah and both are top sellers worldwide. The Camry is bland as hell, as is the Chevy Traverse (top selling large crossover).
Americans are too comfortable with bland cars so I don't popularity of the vehicle into consideration.

I'm assuming an '07? I have an '06 DCLB and got it new: 159K miles and hardly any work on it other than maintenance. I DID add a few "upgrades" though

I'm in Seattle with a Forester rental and I really like this thing. Used to have a Legacy years ago.

Mine isn't as clean on the outside as I made it a work truck. But I detail my engine monthly.
When I change the oil I rub down the frame and all the metal I can see and get all the dirt off of it.
Other than the exhaust pipe, it looks showroom clean from the bottom.
I want a four door though. But I like having a paid off truck. I hate the idea of trading it in and owing for a few year just so the kids can be more comfortable.

A shame too, old American cars were the shite, especially when they would change up every year.

Love mine - AWD, good ground clearance for gully washers and I can take it to the Carolinas in winter with confidence.

I agree and if they could make a reliable diesel engine, they would take over the truck market.
They do make a very reliable diesel. For some damn reason the c level execs don't think murica like diesels but a mid size suv or a small truck with a diesel they would fly off the lots I would like the Audi q7 suv but not at the price point so cracker is gonna get a 4x4 sprinter van this spring. That will be my new swag wag

We have an Outback. It's bland as well, but there aren't many other options for station wagons, much less ones with four wheel drive.
Hyundai actually has some good designs now.
The Germans and the higher end Cadillacs look head and shoulders better than Lexus. I think Buicks look nicer than Acuras. Infiniti has some unique and "risky" designs. Mazda's got a good styling direction as well.
I think bland cars tend to have a better shot at aging better. I just wish Toyota was better at proportioning their cars in ways that hide their size and ride height. I'm not a fan of the new direction they are moving....though the Avalon is okay.
Someone should be fired over at Lexus for attaching that hideous face to their cars. If that is how Toyota does "radical", then they should stick to bland cars.
Toyotas, Chevrolets, Hondas, etc.....the low margin, high volume, mainstream cars are all mostly bland.

They actually may be changing
I think you may see a more aggressive bold style in body design coming out in newer model lexus and Toyota vehicles
The new SUV lexus has coming out is unlike anything they have done before as well as the RC, at least when it comes to the general public. I think there is some new leadership and they are trying to appeal to a you get demographic

They're all in on the spindle look, no doubt. Maybe it will grow on me. As a member of #TeamLexus - I'm more concerned about mechanical properties of the car and ride comfort. I don't want the appearance to be hideous, of course, but that is largely subjective.

I kind of like the HiLux.
Would be neat for Toyota to offer three truck and have the HiLux as an entry level.
