Pretty solid list. Would move up Ozzy and Lamb of God, and move down Death and Carcass.
I definitely think Carcass is too highly-rated, but Death probably should actually be higher.
They are extreme and underground metal to a T.

If ever there was a progressive metal band to make this list it should be Queensryche.
Absolutely agree.

The list isn't limited to classic heavy metal (e.g. Judas Priest, Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, etc.), because it obviously includes some of the music's most extreme subgenres. Heck, Napalm Death is arguably the least metal of any band listed.
I agree, overall. I'm not as familiar with some of the international acts - admittedly competely ignorant of Napalm Death, Carcass and a couple of others - I was just basing it on my gut check - Lamb of God - versus Slayer/Morbid Angel - heck even Metallica/Megadeath - I just get a cognitive dissonance.
But, Tool wouldn't belong on this list, either, as they defy "genrezation" as, perhaps does Lamb of God (and, e.g. Machine Head). "Groove metal" doesn't even make sense to me - I'm so old.

No Diamond Head? That seems like a large oversight.
I can see Killing Joke not qualifying as metal, but I would've had them on the list. I'm not a big enough metal fan to quibble with the rest of the list, but those two were the metal bands I'd add.

I see why Queensrÿche and TOOL are left off with those explanations.
I never got into much thrash/grindcore/death metal
I am more chill

Half of those bands' 'music' sounds like a colonscopy

-Cannibal Corpse being ranked so high
should be higher

-AC/DC being ranked, but no Tool, Rush, Kiss, or Dream Theater
none of these bands are metal

-Napalm Death being ranked at all
should be higher

Wait, in what universe is Lamb of God not metal?
I would submit Mastodon and High on Fire for that list, but maybe it's just too soon compared to the bands listed.

My opinion
Meshuggah belongs nowhere near this list
Carcass and Death in the top 10 is absolutely correct. Death's discography is great and Carcass released classics in 3 different genres.
ACDC... wtf
Opeth should be ahead of Cannibal Corpse.
If Napalm Death is on that list for starting Grind then Venom should be on there for starting black metal. Napalm isn't even that good.
I understand Cannibal being there because of popularity, but bands like Deicide and Obituary blow Cannibal out of the water.

However, they only released two worthwhile albums
I assume you're talking about Heartwork and Necroticism, but Syphonies of Sickness was an awesome goregrind release (which are pretty rare lol).

Don't get me wrong, I love me some CC, but I just think after you discover more bands, CC just sounds a bit generic.
As for Napalm, they just don't click with me. I love Pig Destroyer, Rotten Sound, even some Impetigo, but I just never got hooked on Napalm.

Saw them w Obituary and Exhumed in Asheville last Thursday. Carcass is legendary.

Any thread that mentions Carcass is ok in my book.
Heartwork is one of my fav albums.

A deaf person with tomatoes for ears could discern LoG as metal.

Pretty solid list, even though anything Ozzy has done flat out aggravates me when I listen to it. That whining just gets under my skin, and I immediately change the station (CD player broken). No White Zombie, no care
I wish they did something on the 25 most influential people in rock also.

No Diamond Head? That seems like a large oversight.
Lightning to the Nations might be one of the most influential metal albums in existence, while still being one of the more underrated releases of the '80s.
However, outside of the debut Diamond Head didn't really create any memorable music. This can really be said about every NWOBHM band except for Iron Maiden and Def Leppard.
Killing Joke influenced bands like Metallica, but their material is easy to overlook. There are too many great bands who failed to make this list to even begin considering a fringe band such as Killing Joke.
