Is LSU testing out a new helmet or something?

I've never seen a facemask come off before in my life and it's happened twice this season. Are we testing a new helmet where the facemask gives way easier for some freaking reason?

I know they are testing some new sensors that measured how hard hits impacted them but IDK if that would cause the facemask to come off.

Yes. Breakaway facemasks that protect the player from injury.

We did get some new Revo Speed 360 helmets in this year, and that could possibly be the problem. I believe that is what Fournette and Jennings wear too.

The equipment department probably got a bad batch of plastic face mask fasteners.

"Yes. Breakaway facemasks that protect the player from injury.
That makes sense. Plus it makes it harder for an opponent to get away with a facemask."
How does a breakaway face mask make sense?
If the face mask gives way it opens the player up to direct contact to the facial bones, eyes, nose, teeth, jaw and facial and head injuries. Maybe they are using a new plastic piece to connect the helmet to the facemask that failed, but there is no way that a "breakaway" face mask protects a player from injury.

The real problem here is no NCAA rule about facemask replacement. LSU had to burn a timeout because Jennings had no facemask and Harris wasn't ready. The game should be stopped until the facemask is replaced.

They need to put an alarm on the facemask so the blind-assed ref standing there is alerted that there should be a penalty called.

Botht he facemasks that were torn off weren't from Revo 360's nor Schutts. They were from a simple Revolution Speed, both had the Running Back style facemasks. It wasn't a "Breakaway facemask" nor the new Revolution Helmet that DJ Welter uses. They have used these helmets since about 09-10 and normally the facemask doesn't come off. But with a bunch of 200-300 pound men pulling on it, and the runner going the opposite direction, it was bound to happen. Most likely equipment failure, maybe the screw broke or something. No one knows except the equipment managers, and they might not even know.
