DPMS Oracle AR15

I found a legit deal on as many of these as I can afford. My buddy is able to do a bulk order and get them for $525 a piece. I know there is an AR thread but that thing is too long to read for this.
Anyone have one? What do you think about it? Should I order 4 and sell the other three for $750 to pay for mine or will I be stuck with them? Any help is appreciated, thanks guys.

These seem like a good investment in case something like the post Sandy-Hook craze happens again. I saw some people selling low end ARs for around $1500 at that time. I would buy them but sit on them and never take them out of the box. DPMS rifles are notorious for reliability issues. If you want a decent AR for your own use around the same price, look at PSA or if you are willing to spend a bit more, you can get a Colt 6920.

quote:You will be stuck with them. The AR market is probably the most flooded it has been in modern history. Anyone can go online and find a $500-$600 AR right now. Hell, there is a Bushmaster selling for $380 after mail in rebate from KY Gun Co. Buying 4 of them wouldn't be a bad investment though. Odds that we have another gun panic in 10 years is probably pretty good. Those sold for $1500-$2000 each during the 2013 height. 200%-300% return isn't bad at all in 10 years. If it happens sooner, that ROI is even higher.

No, no they are not. For some reason folks like to believe entry-level AR's aren't reliable. Those people are wrong.

The only DPMS rifles I have not seen have failure issues were the SASR and REPR.

I've never seen one fail that wasn't caused by the user or shoddy work by a backyard "gunsmithing". Notice that those that automatically state DPMS is not reliable or lesser in quality can never quantify their statements. Considering DPMS supplies parts to some of these so called better manufacturers it kind of rings hollow. They use the same source for raw forgings that Colt, FNH, RRA, Spike's, and many others use.

Yea, I've never heard of DPMS being unreliable

Better off buying bare lowers which will be on sale pretty soon. Bare lowers, BCGs, LPKs.

(a) As used in this chapter—
(21) The term “engaged in the business” means—
(C) as applied to a dealer in firearms, as defined in section 921 (a)(11)(A), a person who devotes time, attention, and labor to dealing in firearms as a regular course of trade or business with the principal objective of livelihood and profit through the repetitive purchase and resale of firearms, but such term shall not include a person who makes occasional sales, exchanges, or purchases of firearms for the enhancement of a personal collection or for a hobby, or who sells all or part of his personal collection of firearms;
(22) The term “with the principal objective of livelihood and profit” means that the intent underlying the sale or disposition of firearms is predominantly one of obtaining livelihood and pecuniary gain, as opposed to other intents, such as improving or liquidating a personal firearms collection

but to answer the OP's question, i wouldn't do it. you may be stuck with them longer than you'd like. i think all of the reasons have been covered pretty well above but mostly the political climate that has caused waves in the past will merely make ripples for the foreseeable future

I looked and couldn't find this on their website. Mind sharing a link?

quote:Same here. My Oracle eats steel ammo like a starving Ethiopian. Haven't had any problems, although I've only put about 500 rounds through it. So far, so good.

Can the "high quality" high price AR's shoot steel ammo? The defense rests.

DPMS (Defense Procurement Manufacturing Services) was founded in 1985 by Randy Luth as a small government contract consulting company. The company served as a precision machine shop manufacturing M-16, M-14 and M203 parts for Army contracts. During this time, Mr. Luth also brokered M-16/AR-15 Mil Spec parts for the commercial markets.

This was the link...looks like it isn't populating though. $378.88 after MIR. A C-15 isn't what I'd want though if I was buying an AR. Go with something around $450-500 with a forged lower

what's a good brand to look at in the $500-700 range?

And this.
Exactly how Stag got in the business of complete rifles. Originally just made contract components for the Gov't rifles (still do) and opened up another business to sell complete rifles.

CMT supplies pretty much everyone at one point or another. The DoD contracts out to several small companies so there is always supply and to keep costs down.
