How can you say that and ignore that beckwith was given the scraps while welter got the lions share of all spring and fall reps?
Once beckwith had the reps, and they should have come in the spring, the light was going to come on.

Clearly you weren't watching. Beckwith wasn't what he became when they finally went all in with him, but he won more individual matchups every time he was in than Welter did. Beckwith, even when he struggled, brought way more positive plays than Welter ever did in 20 starts. His tip against Auburn is a great example. You think Welter makes that play? If Ricky Jefferson catches the damn ball, we're probably looking at a more competitive game.

A different perspective... Spoke to a guy who played MLB under Chavis at Ten. for 4 years. He said that Mayo couldn't grab Chavis' system for 3 years, but when he did, he was "All World" in college and the NFL. His defenses are difficult to learn, but when the light comes on, it lights up their athleticism as well. Give these kids a chance to catch it. Now that KB has it, let's enjoy a great MLB.

We all know 52 is better player than 31 but to not mention the increased level of play from hunter, lacatour, godchaux, and rasco and backups as being a huge factor in defense's improvement is being disingenuous.
I get it, welter is easy to hate on and thats a big reason why it hasn't gotten mentioned in this thread.
Fact is DL improvement is MAIN reason D has improved.
Not Kendall Beckwith's emergence., even though he's certainly helped.

When it finally clicked, the coaches dumped Welter like a hot potato.
It just happened to coincidentally "click" right after the 41-7 loss to Auburn, the worst defeat in the Miles era.

You know your on the Tiger Rant when the contrarian posters are still arguing about facts that have already proven to be true.

And start with the VERY FIRST frickING PLAY!!!!
Posted on 11/11/14 at 1:17 pm to BigEdLSU
Explain the auburn game when he got majority of snaps and we still got 400 yards rushing against us.
The reason you are stupid is you can't / won't acknowledge the emergence of 4-5-6 players has a greater impact on a defense that the emergence of one player.
It's common fricking sense.
Go sit in the corner and think about it for a while.

That's easy. He didn't get the majority of the snaps early on.
Here is the notebook on the change, that I found interesting.

Here is the play by play. Notice what happened in the passing game after Beckwith is inserted after Auburn's 12:50 drive. Notice that the running back in the passing game was basically swallowed up.

And here's to hoping we recruited and developed a backup for tw reasons:
-Great players tend to leave early from br
-All players tend to get nicked up every now and then.......or tired.
This is the sec but more importantly, this is LSU. Depth concerns at lb are t good.
But then again, cb isn't in good shape when your #2 guy is suspended and our backups get sizzled by#9, yet we don't double cover. Motherfrick this is frustrating.

It is because Kendall was going through growing pains, he was learning on the fly.
I argue, and you must be mrs. Chief if you disagree, is that he he would have been functioning at a high level all season if he would have been properly coached up.

I know the Illinois LB was highly regarded, but he hasn't played yet and that concerns me. When he gets a few games under his belt, we can see how he looks.
Until then Garret is an unknown.

What exactly does "properly coached up"mean?
I mean for fricks sake, some of you think players that don't get it from day one it's gotta be someone other than their own fault.
KB didn't look so hot first half of the season., he's progressed.
Maybe the coaching up he has received and the added PT finally meshed?
Never considered that did you?

You are making my point for me. You're exactly right. He got some playing time and WHAM! all American. How did he not start the season?
Posted on 11/11/14 at 1:32 pm to BigEdLSU
Im assuming he wasnt ready at that point.
Like I said, whats it matter?
Msu and Au still beat us anyway.
Welter wasnt the difference, regardless what some of the idiots on here think.

After State:
Recently:
quote:
"We think that this week, we'd expect that Beckwith would get a lot more playing time," he said. "We think he's really on the cusp of playing a very significant role in our defense. Kendell Beckwith really should have gotten a little bit more snaps in last week's game. That was the plan. We opted to play Welter for the majority of the game. We tried to get it done last week. This week, certainly, he'll get an opportunity to play significant snaps start to finish."
Recently:
quote:
"Sure, in hindsight you'd like to say you knew that all along. You knew his natural abilities, once he got the reps, would allow him to grow into the style of player he is. We were trying to make that happen as fast as we could."

Dak ran all over welter in that game. Beckwith was in a small amount and was stoning dak at or behind the LOS. I like chief, but this has been his biggest mishandling of talent ever.
