Beckwith has been an all-sec caliber stud since becoming a starter. I have been having a tough time wrapping my head around how it took 17-18 games for him to gain that roll. I could understand if it was a situation in which he was only a little bit better then the current starter, sometimes that can be hard to see in practice. But we literally went from possibly the worst MLB in the SEC, to the best. I just dont think it magically appeared this October. Without turning this into a complete bash thread, did the coaches just simply miss on this? That happens to every coach from time to time so it isnt a major indictment. Or, is the real reason Welter lost the nudes and it freed Miles?

The contrast really has been stark and quite amazing. Bama moved right down the field when he went out.

I gotta believe miss state and auburn wouldn't have run right down our throats with the correct mlb in there.

Welter starting for half the season is the most inexplicable personnel decision that I can recall in the last 5+ years. The moment Welter comes in on Sat, the defense goes to shite. Maybe some guys just look different in practice.

Seriously though. Multiple Bama fans are saying Beckwith was the most impressive player on our team. So our weakest defensive position became our best

We definitely have the best non-draft eligible MLB in the country

Don't ever question or imply that you question our genius coach...

Welter was the better player by far until coincidently we got smoked up the middle especially grievously two games in a row.

Equally convincingly we have had one of the best defenses in the country - just a coincidence....les is a genius.

Last year makes sense especially when he was splitting time on the D-line. But shouldn't this be about Chavis not Miles?

Kevin Minter wasn't Kevin Minter when he first got to campus. It takes time.

Yeh it should. i just threw the Miles nudes line to make the thread light hearted and try to keep it from a flame fest

I could somewhat take this explanation if the MLB was servicable before Beckwith. But it wasnt, it was the weakest spot on our D and possibly the weakest in the SEC. I dont think Beckwith went from the worst MLB to the best in that amount of time

My father in law insists that Welter is related to Edwin Edwards, or some other VIP. I can't really deny that there is not a good reason that 31 would have started over 52.

I know. It would honestly be the equivalent of Harris coming in now and throwing for 24-32 315 yards and 3tds against Arky and A&m. That would be the production gap equivalent

Not so fast my friend. Do you recall JLee getting benched after leading the sec in passing because the golden child came back from suspension

Hey that is worth a thought--even if Harris had just three fourths of the impact Beckwith did, a QB change would be worth it.

But it is interesting how so many of us called for this MLB change since very early this season.

Nice that Welter still can contribute on special teams so he can do something.

do recall JLee throwing 2 picks on our side the field in the Bama game, and JJ leading us down the field multiple times and allowing us to win the game?
