Who initiates a replay review?

Is the call made by the review official or on field official? If by the booth official who makes a subjective call of when to review then he clearly failed by not reviewing the Christian Jones reception in the last 15 seconds.
Miles should have called time to challenge but if he lost the challenge it would have left more time on the clock for Bama to run a couple of plays.
At that point in the game any close play should have sparked an instant replay regardless of who is responsible for initiating it.

He said after the game that the coaches in the booth confirmed it was a catch.

With all that is going on in those frantic seconds I doubt the coaches could give a lot of attention to the video screen as they had to concern themselves with calling defenses etc.
The video I saw showed the ball moving as it lay flat. I am not saying the receivers hands were not under it, but there was a very reasonable chance it was touching the ground. The review should have been initiated by the official responsible under any circumstance.
By the way are TV monitors allowed in the coaches booths or were they looking at the stadium board like every one else?

I still haven't seen anything confirming it was a catch. The fact that the coaches had to spend time communicating as to whether it was a catch or not at that juncture is a bit ridiculous.
I saw a possible trapped ball, as did most everyone watching, and that play deserved the benefit of a replay, regardless of a coaches decision. Anyone that argues that surely is just an oppenent of utilizing replay in the first place.

I agree. I think it was certainly close enough to warrant a replay. I credit bama for sprinting to the line and clocking the ball.
The replays I've seen are tough to confirm or deny anything, meaning in the end the play would have stood as called. Nonetheless, I agree it should have gone to the booth for review

I don't know if BAMA deserves credit so much as the officials deserve blame. for not doing their job and stopping play to review.
That would be like giving credit for stealing candy from an unlocked vending machine.

Miles could have stopped the play, he was told not to. There's no real blame to go around on that one. Plenty of teams fiddle fart around after a close play and it goes to review, they got to the line and got set and spiked the ball very quickly. You don't see that very often.

Definitely should have called time out to force review. First off thats not really enough time in my opinion to "confirm" the catch. There wasn't even enough time to play the replay on the screen before they spiked it. And even still, there is 15 seconds left, more than enough time for them to spike and they were in field goal range. Spike is a timeout, just negates the review. There was no way calling a timeout there hurts us.
And I've been looking for a clip or picture of the catch and I can't find it. If anyone has a link please share.

And after a review the play would have been "stands as called".
The play that should have been reviewed and overturned was the touchback. On video the ball clearly did NOT cross the plane of the goal line.

You tube has a clip tile #5 Alabama survives # 16 LSU and it has the last few minutes. The receiver seems to make a clean catch about 6 inches off the ground then as his momentum carries him down the ball seems to toggle a little as though it bounced on the ground,, just the way it rocks. It is not totally clear on this shot, but certainly the boot review system is more sophisticated and would have views from multiple angles.

Yeah I agree here, it was a close call which is what replays are for. It was an officiating blunder no matter how you slice it, which adds to their rap sheet for the game.

No, Riseup- we see dozens if not hundreds of times where a team routinely TRIES to line up quick and run a play to avoid a replay review...but in most all of these instances, there's a whistle and waving of official's arms, and we hear "the previous play is under review".
So we see it all the time; we're just not used to seeing a team get away with it.
Like some team's fans have grown accustomed.

They have assistant who's main job is to do this. You seriously think Chavis is the one who looks over video replays to see if they should call a review?
Also, the game has been over 2 days now and not a single shred of evidence has been shown to that he definitely did not catch the ball.

There is a still photo which would beg to differ. Should have been reviewed and the call reversed.

I know what Miles said, but he was wrong. The ball hit the ground. There is still photography to confirm it. So my question is who besides the coach is responsible to initiate reviews. Is it all left to the replay booth official? Someone dropped the ball on this , pardon the pun.
What did Miles mean by upstairs? LSU coaches or some game official or what?

Payton cooly called timeouts at the end of the Saints 49ers game on Sunday to review potentially questionable catches. If he can keep his wits about him, I'm not sure why Miles can't
