I'm confused. If you scheduled it for March, why are they doing it now?

YOU should be the one asking questions. Unless you are cool with them busting into your property at their own discretion and cutting timber 5-6 months before you originally authorized.

I think the Desoto NF folks fotted around instead of giving him the road permit right away. Also, 40 acres is small and he waited til he had idle equipment between larger jobs.

The contract gave him a 12 month window to cut, I think that is normal procedure.

Loggers like to cut in the fall or summer when it's dryer. March might be too wet. Also, depending on the contract, once you sell the timber to a company, they can cut it at their convenience. Some contracts actually have a specified timeframe for the cutting to commence, or the logger loses the rights to the trees.
