I'm afraid he may be Herman Cain 2.0
The media is going to do everything possible to destroy this guy simply because he is an African American running on the Republican ticket.

The reality is, this is meme that is entrenched in the Left to indicate lack of intelligence. You and I both know it.
Of course it is, but it works. The media effectively convinced the American people that George Bush had an IQ below 80 because of the way he pronounced "nuclear" and because he was from Texas. Just imagine how much easier that will be with a candidate when he asks that if we evolved from ape, why are there still apes?
It would be a media bloodbath.

pretty much. Its not creationism, while I think that is a load of horseshite, he is a young earth creationist. that is a whole different ballgame.

So, who is going to make this a point in the debates?
whoever the democratic candidate is, if he makes it that far. He won't though.

Is it (in fact) germane to his governance?
Yes, if you cannot accept information to make decisions you will not be a good steward of the nation. WE aren't talking Intelligent Design, we are talking young earth creationism. The earth is 6000 years old, you have to deny who swaths of science for which there is strong empirical evidence.

But no, I personally do not think he has the political skills to survive a primary run much less a general election.
So we agree?

He's a smart guy that can really deliver on some small gov't ideas and I already know where he stands on ObamaCare which is fantastic and he can light a fire under the establishment. His drawbacks are little to no political experience, being a virtual unknown and some ridiculous socially conservative views in my opinion with creationism and gays.
All in all, he's most defintely not my first choice for President.

And let's say he won the nomination, you really want the Rs trotting out a young earth creationist?
Why do private religious views matter?

relevant
And honestly this quote will get him into more problems
quote:
When asked by Glenn Beck if people should be allowed to own semi-automatic weapons, Dr. Benjamin Carson said: "It depends on where you live. I think if you live in the midst of a lot of people, and I’m afraid that that semi-automatic weapon is going to fall into the hands of a crazy person, I would rather you not have it."

On issues that relate to his governance? Absolutely not. But this is not about criticism. This is about taking an issue that has nothing with this ability to lead and using hit to determine his fitness for office (or lack thereof). And it is dishonest and despicable.
Of course, if we had asked some probing questions of our current President maybe we would have had a different outcome in his administration.
Again, President Obama is definitely not a young earth creationist, hence he must be incredibly intelligent and able to effectively lead.

It makes him a less viable candidate because its an easy target for detractors. YEC is a demonstrably false idea about our reality, and it is incredibly easy to paint those who believe in it as lacking critical thinking skills at best and dumb at worst.
It's part of his ideology, it is not influenced by reason, science or rational argument. That's fine, and it doesn't necessarily reflect a lack of intelligence. He is a far better and smarter doctor than I'll ever be. That doesn't change the fact that he will be portrayed as another dumb conservative with a fancy degree.

Yep, his views on guns will be a problem in republican circles.
Posted on 11/6/14 at 6:11 pm to TiptonInSC
I like Dr. Carson, but he has no shot in heck to win. He is the 2016 version of Herman Cain, however I would vote for him faster than blood shunts through the Circle of Willis.

I don't believe I have ever criticized Obama for attending Rev. Wright's church.
Carson is also not even close to being my top choice let alone in my top 5.

Why do private religious views matter?
When you're running for the most public and high profile position there is in this country to represent all Americans, it does matter and people that don't support creationism don't want to take a chance that his beliefs will affect his performance.

You are honestly answering, but again, you are parroting the meme. There are so many more issues that could be brought up about stewardship and leadership, and yet that is the favorite topic to discredit a candidate. Wow.

So we agree?
That he is not a viable political candidate? That he is lacking in political skills? Yes.
I believe he is someone to be emulated and has tremendous leadership skills. That does not mean he should run for President.

Why do private religious views matter?
For the same reason they "matter" when the right brings up Obama's old church or claims he is a Muslim or an atheist.
It matters because people believe it matters. Whether or not it ACTUALLY matters is irrelevant.
Next time you believe religious views don't matter in national elections, try to envision a reality in which America elects an outspoken Muslim, atheist or Hindu. I think you'll quickly realize how much it does matter to people.

I did criticize him for that. That was a very racist pastor and church he patronized.

There's also the fact that YEC tend to want to put their beliefs into science textbooks and grade school classrooms.
