Wonder if this could ever be linked to home automation to use voice commands to turn off lights or adjust the thermostat.

It's going to be a while. We need to give Apple's HomeKit a few years to fail before it adopts Google's tech to invent a new industry standard.

or buy a $70 touchscreen honeywell wifi and set up a tasker script on your android to do this now.
eta did google search on 'total connect' (honeywell's android and iOS app) and 'tasker' and look what the second hit is
