I think a good place to start is with the 20-25 year old women with 4 children by 4 different men.

$2,000 for every man and women that gets "fixed". No tax credits for children.

Stemming the tide of poverty and crime can't be solved by simply moving people around
Sure it can.
Isolate the ones that don't want to be functioning members of society from the ones that do. Say, if you want to live free and on the dole, here, live in this area away from the people who are trying to be productive members of society.
Then stop funding their reproduction.
Mandatory sterilization if they are on the dole.
No additional benefits for multiple children.
If you don't make it hurt, why should they want to get out of it.
Of course, that would make people get off the plantation and make their own way, and mess up LBJ's sure fire voting base. So it'll never happen.

Make prison sentences come with mandatory chemical sterilization.

ahhhh, Brandywine....
When Home Depot and Fidelity Bank closed, that area went down quickly. Once the Circle K stores changed to Discount Marts with check cashing and cell phones......
I have no clue as to how Sonny's BBQ is still hanging in their location...

I lived on Charles Street, several blocks North of Istrouma High, until age 6. Moved to Southeast BR in 1953.

quote:Yeah, because that would be so easy to do.
Isolate the ones that don't want to be functioning members of society from the ones that do.
quote:While I don't think they should be "rewarded" for having multiple children that they can't support, it's foolish to think that's the only reason they reproduce. Accidental pregnancies are much more likely to happen in segments of society where education (esp. sex ed) is sparse and of low value. There are numerous sociological contributing factors, not simply getting additional benefits.
Then stop funding their reproduction.
Mandatory sterilization if they are on the dole.
No additional benefits for multiple children.
quote:Your problem is that you assume that "they" think like you do, with a concept of actions & consequences. Most people in these environments aren't raised with any understanding of that, which is why they're so prone to commit crimes, despite the fact that they always get caught & suffer the consequences.
If you don't make it hurt, why should they want to get out of it.
Again, changing the fundamentally flawed line of thinking and values of a particular demographic isn't nearly as easy as you'd like to think it is.

No! We must fight the cancer! We must cut it out with whatever means are available! If not, it will destroy all that we held dear, and spread!
You can't fight section 8 because the federal government will sue you for housing discrimination. It's the feds that help it to spread. Unless you can abolish section 8 in D.C., you can't stop it. The only way to combat it is to raise property values high enough that Section 8 ceases to be profitable on even the largest of properties. This is extreamly difficult to do on account of how low the overhead is on Section 8 properties and the fact that the federal government is very consistent with paying those rent bills.
The only way to stop it is to not allow developers to purchase homes in your neighborhood.

False. It may kill Tigerland, but it won't kill LSU. Gentrification is already beginning in Old South Baton Rouge. Inside of two decades, the north side of campus will be a trendy neighborhood, especially along the streetcar between downtown and LSU.
Midcity gentrification is in full swing, and the improvements along government street will only help.
The future is bright for BR.

yep, that's Brandywine.
I used to work on North Sherwood.
I recognize some of the thugs in this video.
They were little 9 & 10 year old cocky punks riding their bicycles when I worked there.

So if one side of LSU is overrun by dole scum...you're okay with that? With thugs robbing students regularly?
Panty raids and Adderall sales should be the main "crimes" on campus. Not armed robbery by thugs just outside the gates.
