Ebola Nurse in Maine Takes a Bike Ride - Cops Follow

Maine nurse takes bike ride
This is ridiculous. Look at the video. Her house is in the middle of nowhere. There is zero chance she is going to infect someone while hiking or riding her bike. I bet she would have a tough time finding a crowd of people near her house except for the throng of reporters and cops outside. Jeez.

In any other circumstance, it would be the furthest thing from a headline: Maine nurse leaves home on bike.
And yet Thursday, when Kaci Hickox and her boyfriend left their house in the tiny town of Fort Kent and pedaled along a long country road, law enforcement vehicles took off after her.
About an hour later, they came back. A throng of journalists met her and photographed her. She went back into the house.

Question: Have some healthcare workers returning from Africa contracted Ebola?
Answer: Yes
Conclusion: Why not take the prudent step of requiring a 21 day isolation period for these people?
The bike ride may not have posed a threat to anyone, but either you have a 21 day isolation period or you don't. We've already seen people riding the subway, going bowling, going to a restaurant, etc, so leaving it up to the discretion of the individual healthcare worker doesn't always result in wise decisions.

If one is playing with thousands of lives...they should pay with theirs.

Check your facts, mmcgrath. There's currently a healthcare worker with Ebola. Brantley also returned with the virus, and their have been others whose names I don't know.
Not saying there's been a bunch of them. But the problem in Africa seems to be getting worse, and soon we're going to have hundreds of military personnel returning from Africa.
The problem, mmcgrath, is that you don't know who will or will not catch the virus. Therefore, limiting their contacts for a 21day period seems like a wise move to me.
This HC worker in Maine seems like an attention-seeking jerk to me, anyway.

But this heifer sounds too belligerent to adhere to those stipulations.

Nice to see she is willing to gamble with people's lives all for some fresh air.
Perhaps she'll come visit your house mmcgrath

A 30 minute bike ride. Whoopee. I'm sure that did her a lot of cardiovascular good.
She did it out of rebellion and spite and you know it mc.

Good for her. She's not showing symptoms and there is no reason for her to be locked up against her wishes.
The same people on this board that decry Obamacare as a threat to their freedom are endorsing the imprisonment of a healthcare worker that has shown no signs of contracting ebola.

Everything else aside, at the end of the day she is an immature, petulant, narcissistic shite stirrer.
This is true whether she is wrong or right.

I do feel really bad for thinking it would be kind of funny if she ended up testing positive for Ebola.
But if she already tested negative...whats the point of the quarantine?

There is VERY little to fear so long as it is contained within the human population of this country.
Let it get into the animal population (as in Africa) and the concern gets really ramped up.
I am NOT an alarmist at all. But, this woman is being an a-hole.

So I guess you're the guy that runs through a four-way stop sign intersection at two in the morning because of low probability of having a wreck?

Doesn't mean it can't turn into a positive does it? Just asking.

Because it's too reasonable for some people to understand.

This is so stupid, I can't tell if it's a real argument or not.
A better example would be locking up your teenager during peak traffic hours to avoid the possibility of them being involved in a wreck.
Some people value freedom.

Why are so many liberals adamantly opposed to taking hardly any measures in an attempt to contain the potential spread of Ebola? I swear I don't get it.
This virus appears to be very hard to catch. I think we all know that. But, there have been some missteps and there have subsequently been a couple or so cases here in America.
What in the world is wrong with taking a couple of common sense steps to help FURTHER ENSURE that this virus doesn't spread? Limit exposure for 21 days for these healthcare people, and then let them go on with the rest of their lives. What could possibly be wrong with that?
