How is she at splitting and stacking firewood?

Suggest that you both start cutting back on the booze, together. If she is against it, time to start planning the escape.

He's not willing to do that. His family's intervention was really about his behavior. Without her he has no partner. He's just drunk and alone.

That's my plan

If the fighting and "heightened opinionation" occurs primarily when she is intoxicated - You know the thing that is the issue. Is this the same issue your parents are seeing? It's possible that it will work itself out on its own (I know lots of women that chill after their 20s on their own)... but it could also get worse.

She talk marriage yet with you?

Then think through the legal implications of what you are considering. What would it be like to divorce her five years from now with children involved?
This is truly the most important decision you make in your life. Not something to be taken lightly. Whatever her worst characteristic is right now, magnify that by tenfold when you marry her because she will not be holding back anymore. You will see her in her truest form. At that point you are all in.
Been married 28 years and I have just a little bit of experience (good and bad ) to pass along.

That's why I was surprised by the consensus. she's highly intelligent but young and could definitely stand to grow up some more. Pretty strong nay vote though. I'm not ready to end it on that

I was engaged to a girl that had a drinking problem. She was smart, had a great job, loved sex, but when she drank she became stupid. Doing stupid stuff, and saying stupid things.
The drama got to be too much for me. It got to the point that I wouldn't want to go around friends and family with her because I was afraid if she had a few drinks she would do something stupid. Lifes too short for that, so I GTFO.
So should you.

That's because a good percentage of the OT always thinks they can just go out and do better... or they have fricked up bad enough that it's easier to just give advice.
What another poster said about chilling on the drinking is spot on. Will be hard during the holidays... but an OUTSTANDING time to "prove it" to the parents.

Whatever you do, don't marry her, and don't impregnate her.
You're playing with fire with this girl that you obviously do not love and are only with out of convienance. Y'all are both drunks that need to get your shite together.
What kind of drugs are y'all on?

Well you listed more bad stuff about her than good.
How is she with your friends? Do they like her? What about any friends of yours that are female? They get along ok with her?
You say she is very opinionated. You willing to put up with that the rest of your life? When yall are buying a home together and she won't compromise with you on stuff? When you have children and she has strong views about how they should be raised that you don't agree on? When things are tense every holiday or family get together because your family and her do not get along?

Excellent post.
Tolerating drunk women long-term is a fool's bet.
And you sure as hell don't want them around your kids.
