What exactly was he using with the Beatles, if not an appeal to popularity? An appeal to respect? Taylor Swift is incredibly respected to anybody open to her type of music. The Beatles were incredibly respected by anybody open to their type of music too. Others thought it was total shite fluff. I'm not the one trying to make the comparison.
