Of course there's a reason for it. There's also a reason people jump off bridges.

The proof is in the pudding. More often than not, that play is a massive fail.

The toss dive reared its ugly head on second down on LSU's last possession, when with about a minute and a half left and needing to keep the ball to run out the clock it was massively STUFFED by a weary Ole Miss defense that had been gashed frequently on other types of runs. The second down stuff put LSU in a third and long from which we couldn't convert, giving Ole Miss an opportunity to win the game that we thought had been deprived them when they were stopped on 4th and 1 just a few moments previously.
