If people in Louisiana really need to know where these folks stand on issues then they shouldn't be allowed to vote. Who cares who debates?

Do you drink Pepsi because they ran ads saying Coke sucks?? or vice versa?
Of course not.
You are not in this environment of government skepticism going to win the hearts of voters or motivate voters with a campaign of "vote for me because Mary sucks" either.

Why is that my perception?
Uhh, it's your statement. It's not based on fact, so that makes it your subjective opinion.
quote:
Of course the numbers on early voting are not subjective and you are a complete blind idiot if you are not concerned that Landrieu has managed to get the black vote out very close to the same turnout as in 2008 with Obama on the ballot. Subjective my arse.
I was referring to your statements about Cassidy's campaign. Regarding the early voting numbers, well, they are objective in a general sense but their usefulness is limited. The 2008 early voting numbers had black votes at 3.4% higher (%of total vote) than so far this election. Sounds small but every % point matters.
Subjective your arse. Yes, kinda. It's subjective interpretation of objective facts.

have not made any special effort to search and search for every Cassidy statement.
You're disingenuous to the point of deceit. You speak as if you're attuned to the election but state that you've seen little about Cassidy's record or positions. Either you're a liar or you just happen to leave the room or change the channel.

Against Monday Night Football...I'd put the number at not enough to matter which could be one reason to not go, along with the fact that he's in another debate with them anyhow. Then there is the fact that he gives them 2 the chance to go at it and he gets to analyze this debate and go into the next one with ammunition. Seems like a winning situation whenever he's polling so well and playing for the primary since he'll get Maness's votes anyhow.

This issue is relevant to two types:
Dem backers
Truly ignorant voters
The former tries to make a big deal about his absence for obvious reasons. The latter genuinely isn't informed or just doesn't get it. Laundrieu HAS to show, she's the longtime incumbent who's polling isn't great (to say the least). Maness also HAS to show, who knows what his goal is but he needs all the exposure he can get. The people that pump up either for showing up are pretty ignorant...they didn't really have a choice.

The majority of the state only know Cassidy from his 30 second commercials. God forbid he stand in a public forum and be asked questions. He might be asked why he supported Dukakis, Tsongas, Landrieu and Blanco. Can't have that happen. Voters might switch to Maness. For better for Louisiana to elect someone the movers and shakers in the GOP annointed in a back room deal.

I think Cassidy's handlers don't want to see him get flustered and pounded again like he did in the last debate. They think that as long as he keeps his cool and just doesn't make any waves that he'll coast into the runoff against Mary and will get enough of the anti-Mary vote to get elected. I'm not sure that they're wrong, but I don't think it's a good move as it makes Cassidy look like a coward. His ads already make him look stiff, unapproachable, creepy, and as though he's the republican version of John Kerry minus the Swiftboat.

Why wouldn't they? Plus putting him in front of the cameras isn't exactly helping his cause. No reason to make him play a game he's weak at when he's sitting on the high ground.

My heart cannot be won over by the government.
Mary has motivated me to vote against her with her own actions. It is time for her to become a lobbyist.

The choice to not make this debate was made shortly after qualifying. He committed to two debates at the point.
So not joining this debate has nothing to do with his first debate performance. It wasn't the best, but it was fine.

My issue with Cassidy's campaign is that despite focusing exclusively on saying that Mary is Obama and that Cassidy is not Landrieu, he really hasn't differentiated himself that much outside of Obamacare (which honestly should be all that matters, but this is Louisiana). They both cut medicare, they both voted for the Patriot Act, they both raised the debt ceiling, they both are pro big government. The only difference seems to be that Landreiu has been better at getting pork for Louisiana, and that Cassidy won't support Obama's appointees and may possibly support decriminalization of marijuana (he admitted to such in the last debate, his only real GREAT moment). Obviously, Cassidy is an improvement, but looks like a "more of the same" kind of politician.

election has nothing to do with him vs landrieu, and he knows it. It's all about Obama
so why screw it up and make it about him and her...

Exactly. And they are the only two real choices. Cassidy > Landrieu that is all that matters.
Cassidy isn't great but what other choice do we have?

A. When you're ahead in the polls, you don't debate. That's political strategy 101.
B. You don't debate when you're in the middle. Getting attacked from both ends gets you nowhere.
In your scenario, Maness would have been up there alone. Glad the frontrunner Landrieu decided to debate.

okay.
As an aside, looks like Carson will be stumping for Cassidy this weekend.

Cassidy has the edge in the runoff, the poll indicates.
Landrieu is only "front-running" in the most technical sense.
Cassidy has the advantage and Landrieu is playing catch up.
36% for an 18 year incumbent means its time to pack your campaign up and go the frick home.
