Why would you do that to the poor monk? What did he ever do to you? He's just trying to spread the good news of his personal Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
He shouldn't have let all that Bible talk get in the way of what God really called monk's to do, make beer.

Look how dried up those legs are.

BlackendOut will be here shortly to support your argument Uncle Artie.

I don't have an argument here. People like what they like. The money and effort involved in frying a turkey aren't worth it for me to do it. I will gladly go to your house and enjoy a fried turkey.

A fried turkey is only good if you drop it into the hot oil while frozen. It's the only way to properly crisp up skin.
That's just wrong. Funny...very funny...but wrong.
You never know if someone is reading this who doesn't know any better. They may read your tip and remember it next month when they are at their mom's house helping cook the turkey...then BOOM!

You are a wise man, Artie.
I cant think of a worse representation of either fried food or turkey than a fried turkey. Its neither fried nor turkey. Now discuss amongst yourselves.

Cooked off the bone but definitely not dry. A baked turkey is dry. All parts of a fried turkey are moist if it is cooked properly.

I have been frying turkeys with my dad for about 15 years now. We usually do 2 at the camp for Thanksgiving.

Mine aren't. They have never some out looking like that shriveled thing.

I guess that was your problem. There is no way those shriveled up legs were "moist and delicious."
Seriously though. I would have gladly eaten it. I just think there are better ways. The infra-red cooker is my favorite.

Oh, and everywhere you see black on the turkey is an injection point. The first time we did turkeys the SOB's looked like they had chicken pox with black spots all over them. We also lost a lot of the italian dressing.
Beginning the second year forward we now make one injection on each leg, two on each breast, one on each thigh and multiple on the back, and wings. You just pull the needle out - not all the way - and go back in at a different angle and squeeze.
We then put tape over the needle holes to keep as much of the marinade in as possible and put the bird in a trash bag and put in the frig overnight or longer until ready to cook. You can see the other turkeys/trash bags on the left in the picture I posted above.

I guarantee you the legs were not dry. When I smoke ribs the meat recedes from the bones and the ribs are fall off the bone tender and moist.
I don't have any pictures on my phone but I will see if I have any on my camera when I get home of when we prepare the turkeys for Tday dinner.
Like I said above don't let the black fool you. That is where the italian dressing seeps out during frying.

That is probably the most disgusting part of your story. So basically you inject your bird with oil that then burns and turns black. Sounds delicious!

Here's what a turkey looks like when I get done frying it. I guarantee it ain't dry

You only say this because you have never tried one. Your loss.

Ohh Ive tried one. Probably had about 15 of them in my life. All presented with the same speech: "Its awesome, I know what I am doing, my injection is a secret blend of Dale's/Italian Dressing/Virgin Panty soak..."
I love fried food, but I suspect the reason most of us do, is because of the batter and the difference between an crispy, coated exterior and a moist interior. Frying a whole animal gets you none of the benefits of frying (crispy exterior). Now if you want to chat about breaking down the turkey, battering and frying each piece, then perhaps that is a reasonable debate.

For the most part I don't like the taste of turkey, so frying is the only way I enjoy it.
We used to smoke them until we got the fryer 15 years ago or so.

I prefer my chicken wings to be naked instead of battered.

There's a reason why people only eat turkey once a year.
