re: Life for Christians in Iraq worse now than under Sadaam

Arktiger28, it didn't take you long to figure out Klarvin. He has a huge hang up when it comes to Christians and Christianity.

Not as a group IMO. Hell, the early Christians would sometimes seek out the Romans and ASK to be martyred for the faith.
It's a mindset that exists because, according to it's founders words, one should be hated by the world and persecuted for being a true believer.
I just find it interesting that, if someone started a threat about kurds being killed in Iraq, it would get about three replies and maybe 15-20 clicks.

It was interesting, before Rome was Christianized. It seemed the Romans just wanted the weird new Christian to shut up, and they demanded martyrdom. You're not wrong about that. But those Christians would be considered freaks and radicals by most Christians today.

quote:complete bullshite. You have the bible mixed up with the Quran.
Additionally, the Bible essentially says that if you aren't "hated by the world" and suffering in some manner for your faith, you aren't doing it right.

He does. He is one of those former Christians who has evolved in intilect to the point where he now knows it's all a farse. And now it's his mission to let all us who remain faithful to Chirst know how foolish we are

It's an epic tragedy.
It hasn't just started with ISIS, though. The Muslim Brotherhood were literally crucifying Christians in Egypt.
Let me stop, though. Anything more, and I'll be accused of being Islamophobic.

If only Hillary and Barack could have secured a SOFA, but yeah I can see why you voted for this inept frick.

Most Christians, at least those in the west, don't measure up to the standard of belief described in the New Testament. Many are merely cultural Christians, and many of those who genuinely believe take their faith only as seriously as social norms allow.
If biblical Christianity is the complete, 100% truth, the vast majority of "Christians" will be surprisingly cast out on judgement day. At least I'll be able to say "my bad" and escort myself downstairs

Keep telling yourself that.
Life sure was a lot better for Iraqis before Bush's war of colonization.

"If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first."
"If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you."
"Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong."
"Yes, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution."
"Have mercy on me, O LORD; consider my trouble which I suffer of them that hate me, you that lift me up from the gates of death"
"Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you."
"But the LORD is with me as a mighty terrible one: therefore my persecutors shall stumble, and they shall not prevail: they shall be greatly ashamed; for they shall not prosper: their everlasting confusion shall never be forgotten."
And so on and so forth

Another consequence of Bush's frick up in Iraq and removing a dictator that we could control and ensure stability across Iraq and thus the Mideast.

Jesus essentially advocated for separation of church and state. Render unto Caesar, etc. And I have no fricking clue how a government can live up to Jesus's standard of forgiveness. It's not possible. The establishment of state Christianity in Rome and elsewhere was the beginning of the end. It's been culturally rationalized ever since.
I believe if I am attacked, I should defend myself. I believe criminals should pay for their crimes. I believe war is sometimes justified and necessary. These beliefs are incompatible with the word of Christ. I'm just honest enough to see that.

I know you hold yourself in high esteem, asurob, but it's totally unwarranted. You're a simpleton.
What did Bush have to do with the Arab Spring? It was your boy Barack who tried to prop up the bloodthirsty Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt. If you ever get a chance, do some basic research and find out what rank and file Egyptians think about Obama for helping to prop up those thugs.

arse backwards as it seems, a tyrannical dictator more interested in power than ideology is almost necessary to keep Islam in check in that part of the world.
Western society largely keeps religion in check in this part of the world, but there is no such stabilizing force in the Middle East. Short of a technological and social revolution, the next best thing is someone like Saddam.
That's how fricked up that part of the globe it. It is actually better off with men conducting chemical warfare on their own populations.

It's pretty much impossible to be a functioning member of society and adhere to the bible 100%. If it were possible, people wouldn't need forgiveness.
Posted on 10/21/14 at 9:50 pm to Tiguar
I don't think Jesus wants you to be a functioning member of society.

I don't believe the the NT advocates for no state punishment, only that individuals should forgive.
War is clearly advocated for in the Bible, and given that Jesus acknowledged the OT as infallible, he must have believed that.
I do agree that Jesus seems to advocate against self-defense, though.

The entire premise of the NT is that, if you are a true believer, you aren't a normal functioning member of society in general. You stand apart from it, distinct from it and do not indulge in it's worldly norms.
In a way, it's tough to criticize the radical fundamentalists too much because they are the ones actually trying their damndest to be true biblical Christians.
