My uncle from Meridian, Ms is an educated man, (a doctor) and retired general in the Nat'l Gd. He pronounces corner as coner. Flips me out. Then there's the Poleece and Am bu lance, but that's the democrats in Ms.

My favorite is a friend of mine from the Westbank says buffet as BOO-fey.
Buffet is a different situation. That is a french word, and that is the french pronunciation. In a city with french heritage, it's acceptible.
If french folks in Lafayette call the city, " La Fayette", instead of the Americanized, "Laffy ette", that's understandable and even appreciated.

Yes, it's kind of a hiccup or throat click in place of the "t" .
This is actually more of a Southern thing. Maybe it's common in parts of the NE, but not most.

I've also noticed that people from the southwestern part of Louisiana can't say a word that ends in "ale". "Whale" becomes "well", and "swale" becomes "swell". fricking lazy.
What in the mother frick is a swale?
