I wanted to take a look and see how many times Power 5 conference teams that are ranked higher than LSU in scoring have faced top 50 scoring defenses already this season. LSU is second behind North Carolina (5, with one of those a non-Power 5). This is the list...
Schools who are scoring more PPG than LSU with most games against top 50 scoring defenses are:
5: North Carolina
4: LSU;
3: TCU, Georgia, Oklahoma, Auburn, Texas A&M, Arkansas, Florida State, West Virginia
2: Michigan State, Miss. St., Nebraska, Kansas State, Arizona State, Arizona
1: Ohio State, Baylor, Alabama, Oregon, Cal
Baylor (49.0 ppg) - 1
Michigan State (47.0 ppg) - 2
Ohio State (46.5 ppg) - 1
TCU (45.2 ppg) - 3
Oregon (43.6 ppg) - 1
Georgia (43.4 ppg) - 3
Mississippi State (41.8 ppg) - 2
California (41.6 ppg) - 1
Nebraska (41.0 ppg) - 2
Kansas State (39.2 ppg) - 2

Arizona - (37.5 ppg) - 2
West Virginia (37.3 ppg) - 3
Alabama (36.9 ppg) - 1
LSU (35.6 ppg) - 4

Shouldn't be too confusing.
The schools that are listed are the only schools that are scoring more points per game than LSU so far this season.
Of all of those schools, only North Carolina (5) has faced more top 50 defenses in points allowed than LSU (4) to this point in the season. Obviously we'll be up to 6 against top 50 scoring defenses after the next two games.

We scored 7 points against Auburn and had 10 points against Miss. St. until late in the 4th quarter.
Those are the relevant stats. That is all.

So to make a point of how many points teams score against top 50 defenses you take their average points per game against all defenses. Makes sense.

Jesus. Take out our games against Sam Houston State and New Mexico State. We drop down to 27 points a game. That still includes ULM. Just an awful representation of stats in that post

I don't know, counting the score of a game before it is over seems like the most irrelevant stat of all.

No, it was to look at how many games the top scoring teams have played to this point against top defenses in point allowed.

It's not an awful representation at all. The point is there are an awful lot of top-scoring offenses who are playing very few games against top-50 scoring offenses. Bama, Oregon, Ohio State, Baylor, and Cal have each only played one for goodness sake. If you want to play that game let's take out all of Alabama's opponents except Ole Miss.

If we had won it would have been, yes.
But, it gives an idea of what the offense was really like before we went into panic mode.
Are you trying to say that LSU has a good offense and will score a lot of points against Ole Miss? Ok. But, these stats don't really help your case.

The point is LSU wouldn't be considered second to only UNC in whatever out of context stats you have grouped together if not for playing 3 cupcake games at home. Then to argue against this logic you are comparing an SEC team to one of the worst teams in all of division 1 football and a division 2 team. You win. I quit

so late in the fourth quarter doesn't count?
LSU was one drive away from winning that game late

If you're going to give LSU shite for points against cupcakes, you should do the same for the other teams on the list and then see how they stack up again.

Only relevant if they change the rules to a 56 minute game. Every minute counts, especially when the opponent has to throw their number ones back in for panic mode to barely preserve a win.

All I read is "best 2-loss team in the nation". Am I right?

This! We have dumb arse fans who think all the other teams play and beat top 5 teams every week and we suck because we lost 2 games against two top 5 teams.
Everything will shake out the next few weeks and we will see who are the good teams and who are pretenders.
