You can generally get an idea without even asking. I think it's childish to ask but I'd openly discuss if asked.
A girl with a lot of partners is a red flag. So I can understand people wanting to know.

My wife is adamant that i cannot use the "bak door" which tells me some other schmuck has already been there...and he was probably huuuuuge!
