And yes. She dropped it. On purpose. Because her sister was and never would be better than her.

Probably not.

Knew what it was by the title.

This is the only outcome that makes narrative sense.

I want a signed, notarized, letter by both writers and Geena Davis before I believe she dropped it on purpose.

How is this even possible.

Her hand clearly hits the ground with a firm grip, showing that she could have made the play, then she relaxes and let's it go. That's why she is so confident and happy when she stands up. She made the right decision for her sister.

And remember when Madonna was attractive?

No - it doesn't really make any narrative sense. She faced her sister and could have made her the hero on the mound. She could have kept her mouth shut about the "high ones" - she could have tanked the throw and avoided the collision altogether.
The problem you "dropped it on purpose" people are having is that you're missing that the sports story is, ultimately, Kit's story. It is a Cinderella story - she only got on the train because of Dottie. Dottie was already a local superstar - the fact that she got the limelight in a little bigger market (Girl's baseball?) was only a little change.
Kit went from supporting role (even on the Peaches) to superstar leader of her team. She continually improved throughout the show.
Dottie and Jimmie were the human stories - Dottie of realizing family was more important than baseball and Jimmy of second chances and committing to something.
But the sports story was, essentially, Kit's story. The narrative makes complete sense that she wins the game, fair and square, against her older sister.

It is also clearly foreshadowed in the opening scene. Kit Truthers are the worst. Dottie dropped it on purpose.

She dropped it on purpose in order to pass off her title to her younger sister.
Her sister wasn't even that good. She was living off her coattails.

some people might not check this board daily like the rest of us do and may be seeing this for the first time

The movie is not about Kit. Kit is merely a catalyst for Dottie's acceptance of what she really values in life.
I mean this all sounds nice, but...

This is not Kit's journey. This is not her film. This is precisely why the choice at the end is Dottie's choice. It's the hero's choice. The hero's sacrifice.

"Sometimes, you have to let your little brother win."
Do Kit Truthers just not hear this line?

And on the contrary, it's the only one that doesn't make any sense. But we've hashed this out for years and nobody is changing.

Shabam. Dottie was not the hero Kitt deserved, but the one she needed then.
