Certifications are only important/required in a FEW positions.

Winner winner chicken dinner.

Experience is king from what I've seen. It appears to me that some companies that don't have a lot of work but have a crap ton of money throw certs and people as a form of compensation.

Although I will say that if you can hop on a good ITIL cert that is worth having. A+ and even some MS certs at this point are handed out like food stamps.

If you don't have a degree and you want to be a help desk tech, A+ or Network+ are worthwhile... And agree MCSE might also have some value..

But learning skills for what you want to do is paramount.. SSRS, MVC, ASP.Net, C#, C/C++, Java, Javescript, PHP, MVC frameworks (angular, bootstrap, etc) and MySQL is super important.

I could go on and on... I deal with this shite ALL DAY LONG.
