True sidebar to this scene^:
The original Raiders script called for Harrison Ford to have an intricate, drawn-out sword fight with this ninja-like assassin. Ford had the flu and was not up to performing the scene as written when it was time to film it so instead they changed to plot to have Indiana Jones just lazily shoot the bad guy.
I always think of that scene as a metaphor for the easiest (or laziest) way to get something done.
