Exactly, not coach in waiting but on a staff where he's young enough to POSSIBLY be ready to be a HC when the job opens up

a)Never know what job an unemployed coach will take considering LSU would be a "high profile", well paying job and could be a building block.

b)not everyone is cut out to be a head coach which is becoming more and more like a CEO and less of a coach.
He may never want to be a head coach again .. one never knows

c)coach in waiting is ..is a disaster ..when you give someone that much security, they stop earning it.

Because he knows football, the SEC, can recruit, has sat in the chair and made mistakes. I'm assuming he can learn and mellow. All that to say he's got proper foundation. The UF AD agreed with me but has been proven wrong. I'm sure things have not gone as planned but the guy showed something to get one of the top gigs in the country

I'm just not big on that title. However, if he's on a staff maybe he doesn't go crazy changing every part like at UF

Am I the only one who remembers how shitty his Texas defenses were?

I can see it now:

"Will Muschamp - Coach in Waiting: The Sequel at LSU"

"Jim Carrey reprises his famous role as the clueless Will Muschamp who gives up a last second fourth and forever to Texas Tech to screw Texas out of a championship berth before turning a proud Florida program into a dumpster fire. Cameos by Mack Brown, Charlie Weiss, Jeff "Drisket" Driskell, and seven year role player Andre Dubose highlight this story of an overrated DC impersonating a head coach at a major SEC program."

Rant Rating Scale: 1 = We could have got Jon Gruden to 5 = We could have had Mack Brown <= 7

IMDB rated as unwatchable.

Miles and Saban didn't exactly set the world on fire while at Okie State and Michigan State.

This thread is priceless. I can't even believe it exists.

Do you really thin a Florida program that has won 2 NCs this decade compares to these respective Oklahoma State and Michigan State programs before Miles and Saban.

This board is totally out of control now. Really, Muschamp?? As a DC, maybe. Head coach, no thanks.

Some guys are HCs and some guys are ACs/DCs (Chavis by choice, Weis, Muschamp, Kiffin and eventually everyone will see Charlie Strong). Miles is one of the top coaches in the country. I cannot imagine a reason for firing him. He's head and shoulders above 99% of all coaches in the country. It just so happens he coaches against the other 1% (excluding Big Game Bob, Jimbo Fisher and Brian Kelly, who also deserve to be in the top 1%), when going up against Malzhan, Saban and Sumlin as conference foes (with Freeze, Mullin and Bielema not far behind). Nobody can win the national championship every year.

"Five letters here just for everybody out there in [Tiger-land]: R-E-L-A-X." We have one of the most talented skill set of freshman to ever play for one team (absent some of the paid for USC and SMU teams).

We're fine. If you all want to get rid of your season tix, someone else will pick them up. LSU football did not start in 2001 and it won't end in 2014. The mule is much happier that some of the bandwagoners from the last 13 years have finally jumped off.

See. This is the thing. This is the crux of this whole "fire Miles" conversation. (I know that's not what you're saying here but hear me out).

Boom was regarded as the best choice for UF by people who know a hell of a lot more about this stuff than we do. Virtually no one thought he was a bad hire and lots of people thought he was a great hire. Yet, his tenure has been an unmitigated disaster.

People thinking that LSU is going to can Miles and get their choice of guys who are clearly better are really just delusional.

And to your OP, no. Please no. I don't like Boom as a person and he's nothing special as an HC. UF often looks sloppy any uninspired on the field. That's coaching, and ultimately falls on the HC.

yes. but the process did not play out over time ... Bowden was forced out.

here is another side of that...for the school... if that COACH IN WAITING decides to leave, as in Muschamps case, you are back to square one and have likely lost other good candidates that did not come to your school, since the HC job was already decided.
