You may as well be talking in Spanish. No, take that back, there are more here that understand Spanish.

I am suprised it took so long to call the toss dive the new short side option, they act as if all you need for success in an option is space

I dont really like the toss dive, but it has been an effective play for years, except lately on the goal line, it has lost a little something in that situation.

You're kidding right?

Any time you pitch the ball there's an inherent risk of a fumble.

There is also a risk of a fumble on the QB-RB exchange. I can remember fumbles coming off that.

Have we fumbled the ball once using the toss dive?

So no, I am not kidding you. From a risk management perspective, the toss dive's risk isn't significant enough to even be mentioned

Agreed

This play was getting some good yards against auburn. Lsu was also running well against the defense on 1st down. Too bad Harris had some miscues early on 2nd down.

he pitch dive had absolutely nothing to do with that ranking. We damn sure aren't averaging 5 ypc this year with it. Maybe if didn't run it so many times a game or ran it on a passing down but so far this year it has been a pretty bad play.

We didn't run the toss dive on 3rd and short last year?

Why would we run the toss dive on passing downs? It is designed for a heavy set

The disadvantages outweigh the advantages.
Advantage- carrier gets the ball quicker
Disadvantage- ball carrier takes eyes off the hole, higher chance of fumbling, no play action.

Just because a play has worked doesn't mean it is the best way to run the play. I would say that the plays where the pitch dive/lead worked it would have worked as well with a handoff.

It makes the play action pass totally inept? Wait that's a bad thing.

It does seem to get positive yards more often than not though. By running it makes others ineffective.

t Pitch dive It's a really effective play if it's ran correctly. Former LSU O-Line have said so.

But LSU is the only team that runs it.

I like to call it the skinny pitch because with the pulling lineman and the bunched DL you need to be real skinny to have any hope of fitting through the gap to gain yardage. it's awful and its a drive killer. usually results in getting behind in down and distance.

We just happen to run it incorrectly 80% of the time it seems.

As Ryan Clark (a former Tiger and Super Bowl Champion) said, "I hate the up the middle pitchy thing." Somebody posted that on here. He said he didn't even know what to call it. He has played in the pros for 12 years or so and doesn't know what to call it as a defensive player. So let's just say not many teams run it. If we want to run it every once in a while - okay. When we do it twice in row or multiple times on one drive, it shows our lack of creativity.

The truth is that we usually have some of the best backs in all of college football and they can make even a busted play work sometimes.

Haha I'll bet since LSU put it in the system the total average for that play is 2.0 ypc. The offensive lineman look so uncomfortable blocking on that play.

So one fumble out of how many carries?

That still makes the risk statistically irrelevant

He fumbled the toss. If Miles holds true to his style, we'll see Williams again sometime near Halloween. Just ask Hilliard.
