Impact of tattoos in a professional environment

I'm sitting here at work (large engineering firm), and I couldn't help but notice this. Seems that anyone with a tattoo holds a lower paying/non essential position, and all the important positions are filled by those without one.
Is this because tattoos are unprofessional/trashy, or just coincidence?

I have 3 tattoos.
I guess I'll just go panhandle right now.

It is because people who are competent and professional do not have tattoos (or at least visible ones).

Are they visible in a normal short sleeve shirt?

Or most people with visible tattoos were already not on a path to succeed.

just coincidence
if the guys with the ink brought in a Master Service Agreement with 7-figures of annual fees, he would be up the ladder in a heartbeat

I have none yet am still a bottom feeder. Should I strip naked in front of my boss to prove my worth to the company?

One is close, but not really. I wear long sleeves mostly, though.

i can tell you 90% of the trash in the oilfield has tattoos, while those who move up the ladder, are the 10% who do not

I have one.
I guess my whole professional career was a waste.
