Still can't even come up with a good alibi.

Why does he need an alibi? His thoughts were to save the TO in case the play resulted in being down in the field of play. If he calls a TO, he can only try a FG. By making a first down the play clock won't start until the ref signals. Players should know the situation and know they have to get the play completed quickly. He trusted his players to execute. Simple as that. They failed.

But its his responsibility to make sure situations like those not happen, I agree what Harris did was not the correct decision but Les should have called a timeout and took the what seems like winning the lottery 3 fricking points, but no, we can't call a timeout because the chains were being moved

That's actually the best explanation I've heard so far. But given all the past clock-management bed shittings - and the fact that Les didn't give that answer to the question when asked, I'm going to say that wasn't what happened.

This.

Besides, making a federal case out of these 10 seconds in the face of such overwhelming defeat is a fools errand. Better to pick up the pieces and move forward.

wrong. there were 12 seconds on the clock when the previous play ended. Could have taken one shot to the endzone, then kicked the ball.

If that is the case, why does he give us two different excuses?

As the team is running down the field, the coach should know what they are going to do. When the clock starts ticking away it was incredibly obvious that they weren't running a quick play. You can call a timeout there and get 3 points.

Throwing the players under the bus for that mess is bush league.

there was a play run. and time ran out. Actually Les said the "he couldn't call time out while the chains were being moved".. I HOPE that was a slip of the tongue and he knows better...

wrong.. if he calls a time out with 10 seconds, you get one play to the end zone. if its not there throw it away. thats what you tell you QB. you can run an eight second endzone play from the 20. still have 2 seconds to kick the field goal.

a freshman QB making his first start, already rattled by being down 24 points??

yep.. its the players fault. it's always the players fault. every damn les miles clock mismanagement is the players fault..
