For those looking for a turntable...

There is a local New Orleans audiophile that is selling his Pro-Ject XPression turntable equipped with a Benz wood body HE cartridge and the ProJect speed box/power supply. I believe the entire set up ran around $1800...he is looking to get around $900 for all.

If anyone is interested, let me know. I am sure you can see/hear it at his place in River Ridge if need be.

I can vouch for it being taken care of--he is a friend of mine and a hard core tube amp guy that builds his own single driver speakers.

Ok, I have to share my excitement here I guess. I thought I lost a few records in the middle of a move years ago until I just found a box and looked inside. No idea how they got separated with the rest of my collection. Found my Can't Buy a Thrill and OG Purple Rain (with the poster inside.) After Prince died I was bummed because the asking price for it was insane. I have no intention of selling it, but maybe frame it now that I found it. I did buy a 180g 2008 repress on ebay that I don't need now. Here's the poster, still in good condition:

So I borrowed my friend's acrylic platter to try out for a few days and I must say I have mixed feelings about it. The soundstage, although a little more detailed and focused, diminished considerably. The highs seemed sort of rolled off and the vocals really suffered. Almost like a veil was put over everything. Bass seemed to be an improvement, and again, some instruments were more detailed, but I like it when the vocalist appears to be in the room with you. Any thoughts? Too much damping maybe, with the Vibrapods and all?

Just a thought...did just the platter change or the platter and bearing?

Maybe too much damping?

Every turntable has a resonant frequency, and when you start altering the table, you alter that resonant frequency. I don't know what it is for that table.

Try a few more records and see if you still hear that same thing.

As I stated in earlier posts, I am not a huge fan of hot rodding the ProJect tables all out as you begin to approach VPI territory when you start to add it all up.

Just the platter changed. I adjusted my speakers some to get a better soundstage. Overall volume output is lower also. Just wanted to try it out...

This Odyssey is really coming into its own though!

The Paper Kites "twelvefour", 2015

This, their second major label release, was written entirely between the hours of twelve midnight and four in the morning. Although I much rather their two early EP's, which were more stripped down and bare, this is a pretty good entry into their catalogue.

Whitney "Light Upon The Lake", 2016

Cool band I stumbled upon via this board. Similar to The Paper Kites and Half Moon Run. Check out the single "No Woman" for a preview...

I've been in Colorado for the last week, and the summer Phish tour started, so haven't been playing many records. But I am back home now, so I'll probably fire up the rig tonight.

I've been looking for Whitney at my record store, about to bite the bullet on the Amazon. Fantastic record. Early Sunday spins:

Back in the game Marco! Well at least moving forward again. Need to at least figure out a decision on a turntable. I want to at least have it picked out and bought within the next 1-2 weeks.
When I last spoke with you, you suggested to look at a vpi nomad that music direct had a good deal on... He gone.
Need a little coaching on figuring out a new one.

Just a refresher...
