Dad asked me to repair brother's computer, "It doesn't work."

I turn the fricker on this afternoon. Here's why it doesn't work:
I also found it funny that of the 7 desktop icons I could actually see, 5 of them are malware/crapware.
It's almost irresponsible of me to suggest a new computer, because of what it would become.
That's all. Carry on.

Why is it that people with PC's feel the need to download that shite, but I have never had a problem with any of that since I bought a Mac?
I guess I know nothing about computers since I no longer have to defrag my hard drive and clear my cache every day...

That got my attention too.

No kidding.

I run Windows 7 and don't do either. Works like a charm.

How are you related to him? That doesn't even make sense.

Seriously, which one of you was adopted?

Your trolling is bad, and you should feel bad.

I only have half brothers, so maybe that explains it. But really, I just think my brothers are all just a tad too old to have been able to immerse themselves into technology at an early age. I'm the youngest of 5 boys. The second youngest is also fairly tech-oriented and owns a surveillance company.

These were actual comments I had in another thread.

I wanted to set up the family to have family meetings over video, so my mom and dad can see everyone, and you would have thought I was suggesting they put in a television production studio. I suggested Google Hangouts and the pushback at "having to learn how to operate a new program" was just too much for them.

WTF is that?
Would it boot in safe mode?
I would actually have fun seeing if I could get all of that crap off.
Might as well just reformat unless he has something he needs.
As you said, no sense getting a new computer because he will click on any blinking add that tells him he needs to scan his PC.

Maybe, but I'd have to find a VGA cable to connect to a spare monitor to navigate around since the panel is destroyed.
I looked at some of the internals today, and I'm guessing this laptop is about 10-11 years old. 512MB DDR 333MHz, IDE hard drive, legacy serial and parallel ports, single core Celeron M... My dad I could try to sell the parts, but this shite is so worthless that I've practically lost money just by taking a few minutes to look inside of the laptop. The memory is expandable to a gig, but what's the point? I'm guessing that my brother was so desperate to make this thing go faster that he googled "speed up my PC" and just downloaded everything.
I'll probably recommend that my dad get a 256gb SSD and a $299 cheapo notebook from best buy, and then I'll lock UAC down as much as possible.

There's no way I'd have the patience to perform any scans or uninstallations on that hard drive.

Well, since the system is so old there wouldn't be a point to it.
I don't need much patience. I just set it up near my tri-monitor setup and just look over every couple of hours to see if it is done.
One thing I love about SSDs is that virus and malware scans are so damn fast now.
