The guy is stupid for running on the field but the coach is a super douche that needs his arse kicked.
I agree. Likely 'roid rage.
I wonder why this coach hasn't been charged with assault? Even though the student was trespassing, the coach had no authority to assault the kid.

i always wonder whats the point? unless you are in a high school stadium with 4 ft chain link fences, you may dodge a cop or 2, but at some point you will be get tackled and arrested.

Ohio State student who ran onto field loses full-ride scholarship
Well that defines disproportionate response.
I get it, he trespassed. Its nothing to ruin his whole life over. The humiliation and body slam was almost enough.

Losing funding for school for his final year is hardly ruining his life

if i remember right, the streaker at the oregon state game not only got expelled, but whatever he was charged with got him put on the sexual offender list (for life?)

So...the caddie scholarship is available again?
Lou: One announcement. Anthony Wunder lost his scholarship in a severe stupidity attack.
Motormouth: I heard he streaked the sideline at the OSU game.
Lou: However it happened, he was a good caddy and a good kid.
Tony: He was a brownnose, Lou! You hated him.
Lou: Shut up! That means the caddy scholarship is available again. Anyone who's interested should go see Judge Smails.
Motormouth: And kiss his arse!
Lou: That would help.

People are going for blood on a youthful indiscretion.
How is costing him thousands of dollars going to help him be a better person? People in the US are getting where they want harsh punishments on everyone, but themselves.
When this kid gets out in the real world this incident will be his first google result for any employer. This is going to hurt him, long term. A lot of young people have done more stupid things and not been body slammed on camera and lost a year of scholly over it.
A proportional response would be some community service with an official apology.

lol. His scholarship was pulled. It's not like he's going to jail or something.

Hopefully he learned something from it.

When you or your loved ones mess up I hope people tell you this. I hope they have the same lack of care.
I mean, this kid should have known better, right?

Slap on the wrist.
Running on the field knowing you'll be caught is not ordinary behaviour. There very well could be some messed up things going on in his life that will have him do progressively more stupid things. The answer to that isn't to throw the book at him.

I'm not sure what you expect to be done here. This one is 100% on him.

Frick that 150 pound kid. He deserves whatever he gets for running on the field. If I'm in his vicinity I assume the worst and take him out.
Absolutely.
Ever since Monica Seles basically lost her career due to a psycho who was somewhere he shouldn't have been, I have been in favor of drilling the shite out of anyone who is on the field like that. You have NO idea what their motives are. In this case, the jackasses who run onto fields are guilty and up to no good until proven otherwise.

The answer to that isn't to throw the book at him.
ETA: He did something really fricking stupid and hopefully he learned something from it. Like (a) don't be a fricking idiot and (b) there are consequences to being a fricking idiot.

They pulled his caddy scholarship. The constitution protects your liberty, it doesn't protect your right to receive money for school because you caddy.

As Danny Noonan would be the first to tell you.
YES! I got my own Caddyshack reference into the thread.
