I know there's an argument that if you bench Jennings, you have ruined his confidence and he can no longer contribute to the team. Well, too late. The confidence is gone. He's getting booed by the home crowd, which I don't approve of, but I certainly understand. The only way to "fix" Jennings might be to put him on the bench for awhile and spare him the full wrath of the Tiger faithful. Because he has played some unspeakably awful football.
Anthony Jennings has now posted a completion percentage of 50% or worse in three of his five starts this year. He hasn't thrown a touchdown pass since the Sam Houston St game. There is no quarterback controversy: Jennings flat out lost his job last night.

While I know the OP is a bit out there with the conspiracy theory type stuff, there is an element of truth to what he's saying in regards to plays and formations
To me it's glaringly obvious that the coaches don't believe in Anthony Jennings running a "spread" formation. And that makes sense that Les Miles would try everything he could to force a power running I formation because that's what he wants to do. Only after total implosion does he give in and go with the other approach.
quote:
In LSU’s first 10 plays, LSU lined up in the I-Formation seven times
Those first 10 plays netted only 33 yards and three turnovers.
quote:
The most popular formation was Harris in the shotgun with three receivers, a running back, and tight end. LSU lined up in that set 21 times with a 13:8 run-pass ratio.
quote:
The first down calls with Jennings in were geared more heavily towards the run nine to two. Both of the passes were picked off and the nine runs went for 51 yards – 4.6 yard average on first down.
It was a different story with Harris in all regards.
Harris ran 18 plays on first down and was as balanced as LSU has been this year with 10 runs and eight passes. The 18 plays were good for 211 yards, which more than doubled the average of Jennings at 11.7 yards compared to 4.6.

And your daddy tried to set you up in a rubber condom that he tied, stated if you got loose, he'd nickname you Houdini.

Because if we ran the spread with Jennings our offense would have been even worse. He can't throw, except a nice deep ball, but that's all he looks for. He doesn't make his reads and progressions that well. And he's extremely inaccurate and just throws the ball up for grabs half the time.
Jennings can't run the spread offense at this level.
Yet when he did the offense marched right down the field and scored a touchdown, averaging about 9 yards a play.

At this point in his career Jennings can't throw, run, make progressions, or read blitzes, at least not very well. The last two games have made that pretty clear. When your qb fits that description it kind of limits what you can run
In 2012 Mettenberger was god-awful at seeing blitzes and took some big shots and bad sacks because of it. Also, Jennings' touch and accuracy on the deep ball far exceeds anything Mettenberger ever had in both of his years as LSU's starting QB.
Jennings has made some bad plays and I think his confidence is at it's lowest point. But, while I do think that Harris has earned the chance to start, Jennings is NOT the horrible QB that everybody on here has made him out to be. Go back and watch the Wisc. game. You'll see two deep balls that were perfectly placed to Dural, along with a crossing route that was dead on the money. Couple that with two well timed and on-target throws to Diarse (who doesn't have a chance to run after the catch if they aren't) and you see a guy who has ability as a passer. I just don't think he is very comfortable as a "drop-back" passer which LSU is asking him to do. And with him being a first time starter, coupled with Miles' complete fear of his QB's making a mistake, I promise you the coaches are not asking him to go through too many progressions on his reads. It also doesn't help that your OL has been awful.
Both of the QBs came from HS where they played almost exclusively from the shotgun in offenses that were more spread out than what LSU want's to do. The difference IMO is that they have forced Jennings to play from that system, while allowing Harris to run more plays from an uptempo shotgun style offense (even if they are still running the ball from those formations) Again, I'm completely ok with Harris being the starter. However I hope Les doesn't hamstring him like he has IMO with Jennings. If you think Harris is talented, let him make plays

Come on man,That has to be the dumbest shite I've heard in a while! Is it not clear to you that Jennings is limited in his skills, Harris's arm opens up the whole offense.

I'm saying it here. Miles set up Jennings to play poorly
Well, I think it would be more accurate to say that it was readily obvious from game 1 that Les had effectively no confidence in Jennings.
That said, I have never figured out why, when you dont' have confidence in your QBs ability to throw, you choose to ONLY throw on 3rd down? This inevitably means that the kid you have no confidence in will be throwing in must throw situations where everyone in the building knows he's going to throw and it is a MUST complete situation.
Les seems to have totally never heard of the "high percentage 1st down pass to settle the kid" concept.

Just stop. I usually laugh at posters on here that say qbs don't go through progressions because we don't know the play or his first read BUT it's obvious on Jennings ints that he didn't look anywhere but to where he was throwing. He didn't look a safety off or look to the other side of the field once.

Because a 3rd and 4 is easier to get than a 3rd and 8.its that simple.

Lsu is more likely to run for 4 yards than Jennings is to connect on a first down throw. As bad as it sounds, the last 2 games Jennings has not been on the same page as his wrs.

I'm pretty sure your watching a different Jennings on a different LSU team in a different universe! The Jennings the rest of us watch does throw a great deep ball to one guy, all his other throws he sucks at. Harris hit 7 different receivers in a little under 2 1/2 quaters.

quote:It's funny because one pass that BH threw Saturday that I felt was a HUGE separation between him and AJ was when he threw the quick pass behind the LOS to Dupre(or maybe Diarse). The DB was coming up hard by the ball got there so damned fast, the WR had time to react and pick up a nice gain.

If AJ throws that same ball, the DB drops the WR for a 2 yard loss. The velocity difference between those two is staggering.
