Let's look at it logically, bap - it is a baked on, ceramic finish - like they used on the space shuttle's heat resistant tiles. About the only thing that's harder is diamond.

Second, they had to texture the hell out of the weapon before application, so all that's ruined anyway, even if he gets it beadblasted/sandblasted off.

By the time you spend money to remove the cerakote and refinish it back to factory specs (or nearly so, because factory original is probably not possible), he could probably have a second Kimber.

What am I missing?

nada. spot on. OP you can leave it be or have it completely redone. cerakote is a different animal than duracoat, alumahyde etc. it can't be removed without being recoated
