She just wants to display her crappy work, not pass it off as art. I tried to add to the form since the blob was pretty off putting. Maybe I went too angular?

Honestly it looks out of place. I would take it down before it falls. You should have a black base not wooden.

Take some pliers and crimp the legs of the metal loop together so they don't resemble a paper clip. Maybe even bend the bottoms of the bottom ones so that they look like feet.
