I don't answer obviously rhetorical questions, but if you have a serious question, I'll be glad to respond.

quote:The right to free speech doesn't mean you get the right to have your speech ignored by the government. In fact it implies just the opposite, that government will listen to your speech and give it the proper consideration. If in that consideration, government determines there is a threat to the safety of others, then government has an obligation to take reasonable measures to protect the safety of those others. Thus, it is imperative that Government pays attention to the speech of all who express threats to the safety of others. This includes monitoring how the speech has influence on others. As such, monitoring religious groups is as necessary as monitoring other groups that express dangerous ideas.
I guess a lot of folks here aren't fans of the 1st Amendment.

you mean the right to plan terrorist acts under the guise of freedom of religion?
I suppose it does allow a certain latitude, but on the other hand, non-Americans on our soil have no right at all really, just because idiots like you want to grant it to them doesn't mean they have it.

I don't understand people's outrage over this.
I think it's a good idea, at least based on what you quoted it sounds like it is. You shouldn't be targeted just because of a religion, race, etc. There should be hard evidence to justify surveillance.
Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.

Interesting.
It's like a rule mandating that you can only use half your brian to do police work.
BTW, check out the FBI's most wanted terrorists list.
Does anyone notice a dominant theme?
They are overwhelmingly not in the United States, Muslim and have done something already to put them on the list.
I really don't understand the bitching in this thread. How can so many people in this thread can be so anti Big Government yet they support government overreach in situation in which it doesn't effect them.
Also, Libertarians quit being so dam quiet in this thread. This board is allegedly Libertarian leaning. I'd love your insight into this issue.

I make sure to check for Muslims under my bed every night.
Is that something I'm not supposed to do?

Profiling is ok when it is other people being profiled.

The same reason there is a lack of outrage/concern about the militarization of the police we have seen recently.
As long as it's 'those folks' & not heroes like the great Cliven Bundy.
