Don't get it
It has hit hard in chicago
It was picking up steam last I was in nola
I just bought a dozen donuts for $30! After tax. You read that right. Gift for coworkers who requested it
I mean these are pretty good and they all have fancy names and look pretty in the box designed to be phone photoed
But really not any better than my old standard at tastees
There wAs a time not that long ago when a dozen there cost 3.99
Then Krispy Kreme rolled in and prices went up
Now I think dizen at tastees is $7
Still reasonable compared to this shite
30$ for a freakin donut

The only crazes I really support or the fresh kale and fresh quinoa crazes. He's actually taste pretty good. But more importantly they are healthy. I can't believe I fell to another food crazy and now my arteries will pay for it.

Tastees is bad IMO. Donuts never taste fresh.

It's all brilliant, really. Take a food that is insanely cheap to make, extended a few of the cheapest ingredients, put a little artistic skill into it, and voila, BIG MONEY.
I know someone that used to work at Gigi's cupcakes. I asked him why they were so good, and he said I was duped. He said their cakes are good quality, but really not much different than what you can get at the Publix bakery. He said the fact that they're really cold helps influence you to believe they're different than any cake you could make at home. Then he said the icing is 70% butter, 20% sugar, and 10% flavoring and color. He described the chocolate icing as sugary butter with chocolate aromatics.
I imagine the donut craze is the same way.

These people probably had a huge Beanie Baby collection in the late 90s too.

I think another one opened up, or is about to open up in NOLA. I like it slightly better than the cupcake craze. That shite was just fueled by basic bitches. But it's just silly.
I did try a tirimisu donut at District that was really fricking good. It's a fatty's dream. More calories than you should consume in a day before 9am. But you can't eat the whole thing. It's just too rich. The diabeetus starts coursing through your blood after a few bites.
One morning we did the ultimate decadent fatty togo breakfast spread. We went by there, picked up donuts, then picked up pastries at La Boulangerie. We washed our calories down with boozy coffee and mimosas. La Boulangerie won by miles. The pastries were all devoured and the donuts just picked at. And the donuts cost a hellva lot more.

At this do rite place a basic plain glazed is $2
Choc covered glazed is 250

It's just absurd for fried dough
But restaurant desserts are absurd too if u ever think about it

People drop $50 a head to cook their own mediocre food at the melting pot. There are many things in this world I'll never understand.
If I still smoked weed, I might understand the bougie/hipster donut craze. Well, I probably wouldn't understand it. But I'd definitely be a fan of it.
