Proper fit is the key. Grab the material and ball it up in your hand. Let go. It should fall back unwrinkled. Have a good tailor fit you. Most kids get pants too long. Don't fricking do that. Get some nice shoes, tie and shirt. Really nice shoes and a well fitting suit are the key.

can tailors adjust the length of a coat if its too long if has pockets on each side??

Depends on the suit, I think.

Higher dollar suits have more flexibility. Plus, wouldn't the sleeves be out of whack, too?
